Responsibilities

The Coding Issues Manager is primarily responsible for the oversight of the coding issue tracker to ensure compliance with coding and revenue integrity components. The manager will monitor the tracker and ensure that the editing and charge reconciliation functions are timely, accurate, complete, and compliant with regulatory requirements, ensuring documentation and charges are available for coding and billing promptly. The Manager utilizes knowledge and resources to educate, be diplomatic, and be persuasive to ensure the data integrity of the coding issue tracker as well as the accuracy of coding and charging practices. The manager will liaise with the Coding, Business Office, and HIM departments of facilities and offshore units to maintain the integrity of components of the coding issue tracker whiles also ensuring that the recommendations made by the coding issues team are precise, appropriate, and addresses the reason for which the account was assigned to the coding issues tracker in the first place. The Coding Issues Manager will perform other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

Required qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in related field

2. Certified Coding Specialist Certificate (CCS), or CPC, or CIC, or COC or applicable coding certification. If not certified, certification needs to be acquired within six (6) months of accepting the position.

3. Minimum of three (3) years of experience.

4. Basic computer experience required.

5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent critical thinking skills.

6. Use of an encoder software product for code assignment in an acute care setting.

Preferred qualifications:

1. Minimum of two years’ experience with ICD-10 and CPT coding in an acute care setting.

2. Medical Graduate, PA, Nursing Graduate

3. Master’s degree in healthcare or related field

4. Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, DRGs, APCs, and Severity Adjusted DRGs.
