The tagata sa'ilimalo (Pacific people living with disabilities, their carers and family) workforce is a key part of our organisation. We're looking for some key people to join our team in Auckland.
The Disability Navigator will work with our tagata sa'ilimalo on their goals and aspirations to thrive and be independent. These goals may be to study, move in to employment or to navigate their environments in a safe and assisted manner.
You will provide accurate, independent, and objective information and advice to tagata sa'ilimalo, providers, and the general public. This includes information on:
How to find support and advocacy groups
How to find a Needs Assessment and Service Coordination (NASC) organisation
What is available in the community
A specific disability or disability in general.
This is not a caregiving role and works with individuals and their families on a one on one or group setting.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be tagata sa'ilimalo, or someone with a passion for tagata sa'ilimalo and working towards equity and establishing a voice within the community and a history of working with tagata sa'ilimalo.
You will have:
Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of a Pacific culture with the ability to translate this across the wider Pacific community.
An NZQA qualification in health and disability or an equivalent qualification (Or working towards these).
Fully conversant with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
A clean, full NZ Driver Licence.
Strong communication skills (verbal and written) in English and one or more Pacific languages.
Experience working in a Pacific community setting.
Knowledge and understanding of disability issues.
Strong network and relationship stakeholder management.
Eligible to work in New Zealand.
A clean police recod
