Consultant in Cardiology

We are seeking an experienced Consultant in Cardiology to join our established service. This is a rare opportunity to help develop the cardiology service in an internationally accredited private hospital offering outstanding care.

The hospital has an established coronary intervention service for both elective and acute settings. Experience in diagnostic and/or therapeutic interventions would be an additional asset. Alternatively, substantial experience in device implantation would also be desirable as that would create the opportunity for expansion of services to pacemaker/ICD implantation.


Job Purpose

  • Responsible for the diagnosis, evaluation, and management of patients with cardiovascular disease. The role involves delivering high-quality clinical care, interpreting diagnostic tests, and contributing to the development of cardiology services.
  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of cardiology patients.
  • To share, with colleagues, responsibility for the day-to-day management of the medical inpatients and patients presenting acutely.
  • To actively participate in continuing medical education (CME).
  • Fulfill duties of the weekly timetable including any out-of-hours responsibilities.


Principal accountabilities:
General Duties and Responsibilities of the Post

  • Provision, with Consultant colleagues, of a cardiology service with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department.
  • Out-of-hours responsibilities, including participation in the Consultant on-call rota
  • Cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences.
  • Participating in medical audit, the clinical quality impovement, and in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • A responsibility to work co-operatively with colleagues and to respect and value their contribution to patient care.
  • The post-holder is responsible for data quality and complying with the policies, procedures and accountability arrangements throughout the hospital.
  • The post-holder will be responsible for undertaking the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the administration of the department.
  • The post-holder will be required to participate in the annual professional practice evaluation process.
  • The post-holder will be required to complete annual updates in mandatory training.
  • Any other duties that may be required from time to time.



    Qualifications / Knowledge Requirements:

    • Medical Degree (MD or equivalent) from a recognised institution
    • Completion of a specialist training programme in cardiology or interventional cardiology
    • A minimum of 5 years post-residency practice experience in busy cardiologysettings.



    Registration Eligibility:

    • Must be eligible for medical registration in the Cayman Islands. (Registration, without additional examinations, is available for applicants who have completed specialist training and are registered in Australia, Canada, Jamaica, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK, or the USA.)


    Travel:

    None expected.
