About the role:

Reporting to the Payroll Specialist, the Payroll Coordinator is responsible for various aspects of payroll processing. They collect and verify employee data, compute wages, ensure employees receive correct payment, and ensure payroll policies and procedures align with legislative requirements. Respond to employee questions related to pay and benefits.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing deadlines, and work effectively under pressure with minimal supervision. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with sound decision-making and a solid understanding of payroll workflows and system integrations, are essential. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to collaborate effectively across teams. A high level of integrity and discretion is also critical, particularly in handling sensitive and confidential information

In this role you will:

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Monitor Time and Attendance (TA) exceptions
  • Support new hire onboarding, terminations, and Records of Employment (ROEs) processing
  • Prepare payroll in compliance with Company policies, BC and AB Employment Standards, and all applicable government legislation
  • Manage payroll bank file uploads, semi-monthly and off-cycle time imports, payroll closings, and advances
  • Assist with accurate, timely payments to employees and vendors, including payroll reconciliations and transfer reconciliations
  • Support audits and manage annual vacation, overtime, bonuses, profit share, retention incentives, and RRSP requests
  • Assist with processing and reconciling quarterly and annual WCB and BC EHT online reporting, payments and reporting to finance
  • Provide payroll guidance and support to Human Resources on pay-related matters
  • Assist in year-end processes, annual preparation and reconciliation of taxable benefits and T4/T4A’s, including updating systems for all benefit rate changes, yearly RRSP, CPP, EI, tax, and TD1 changes in accordance with government legislation
  • Assist in providing payroll procedures or back-up information for internal and external payroll audits as required
  • Facilitate annual and ad hoc salary rate changes
  • Test payroll system upgrades, releases, bug fixes, and enhancements
  • Help update and standardize payroll process documents, training materials, and checklists
  • Participate in workshops for complex payroll and TA designs, documenting functional requirements

    • Requirements:

  • Minimum three years of experience in payroll or related field
  • Related diploma or certificate in Business Administration, Commerce, payroll or related field, working towards a recognized professional designation is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Excellent digital proficiency, particularly in the Microsoft Office Suite®; Excel, Word, and Outlook, along with experience in payroll applications.
  • Experience with SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central and Employee Central Payroll is an asset
