Counsellor

APM is seeking an experienced Counsellor in Wellington, who is passionate about helping people achieve positive wellbeing outcomes.

This role can be full time or part time (minimum 3 days per week). This is an employment only role. Salary range is between $65 to $90K depending on experience. 

You will primarily deliver high-quality Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) services, supporting individuals and workplaces through timely, practical, and evidence-based interventions. You’ll provide brief, evidence‑based assessment and intervention, adapt your therapeutic approach to diverse client and workplace needs, and support wellbeing through practical strategies and strong rapport-building. The role includes opportunities to deliver workplace interventions, facilitate discussions, and collaborate with organisational customers.

There may be an opportunity to also deliver ACC funded services. In this space, you’ll provide trauma‑informed therapy under the Sensitive Claims pathway, support functional and rehabilitation goals in Training for Independence, contribute to Pain Management Services, and deliver therapy for physical injury recovery - all while working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and maintaining high‑quality clinical documentation.

What we need from you

• Bachelor Qualification in Counselling or Psychotherapy with current registration with APC with NZAC or PBANZ 
• Adapt counselling/psychotherapy theory and models (depth in one or more modalities appropriate to scope) to client needs with experience working with adults
• 3 to 5 years experience minimum
• CBT/ACT/SFT training and experience
• EAP experience highly desirable
• Couples therapy training would be desirable
• Trauma‑informed practice and risk management (safety planning, crisis/urgency pathways)
• Uphold professional standards: ethics, cultural safety and responsiveness
• Experience in assessment, formulation, treatment planning appropriate to scope and working with adults
