Be one of the many friendly faces welcoming cruise passengers to Alaska's Capital City! With hospitality embedded into every aspect of this program, you will make sure visitors stay safe while also keeping Downtown Juneau's economic engine flowing. Includes your choice of weekly shifts (4 hours, 6 hours, or 8 hours), your choice of hours worked per week (12 hours, 16 hours, 20 hours, 30 hours, or more), and the ability to easily schedule time off for meetings/travel, etc. Perfect for visiting family members, returning home college kids, educators off for the summer, and many others seeking flexible and active employment for the season. Paid training and gear provided.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Use STOP paddles, hand gestures, eye contact, and voice commands to communicate with others.
- Monitor vehicular and pedestrian flow.
- Provide assistance to those with mobility aids and children, as well as those that are unaware of crosswalk protocols.
- Wear assigned gear and use a 2-way radio to maintain communication with the team.

HOSPITALITY REQUIREMENTS
- Serve as a welcoming and professional presence for residents and visitors in Downtown Juneau.
- Support a safe, orderly, and positive pedestrian environment during periods of heavy activity and congestion.
- Demonstrate professionalism, collaboration, patience, and good communication in all public and team interactions.
- Balance public safety responsibilities with hospitality-focused customer service and community representation.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Context: Requires continuous outdoor activity in a marine climate, including rain, wind, and variable temperatures.
- Mobility and Reflexes: Requires rapid movement response to changing traffic and emergency situations.
- Standing and Walking: Must be able to walk 1-3 miles/day and stand for 4-8 hours, depending on shift.
- Lifting and Carrying: Ability to frequently lift and transport up to 35 lbs. (e.g., safety cones, signage).
- Vision and Hearing: Must possess sufficient visual and auditory acuity to assess traffic flow and quickly respond to environmental cues, verbal input from pedestrians and drivers, and rapidly changing conditions.
- Verbal Communication and Signaling: Requires the ability to project clear, authoritative voice commands over ambient noise to safely manage pedestrian and vehicle flow.
- Cognitive and Emotional Stamina: Must remain calm, attentive, and decisive under stress or confrontation.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years old at a minimum.
- Fluency in English is required; ability to speak other languages at any level is considered to be a plus.
- Must have access to a personal mobile phone for text messaging (daily schedule reminders, etc).
- Must pass a background check, provide professional references, and pass a pre-employment drug screening for illegal substances in Alaska.
COMPENSATION
Successful candidates can expect competitive pay ($24+/hour DOE), paid training, staff development, attendance bonuses, spot awards, and a chance to make a difference in Juneau! Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of an online flagger course paid for by JEDC.
