About the Opportunity

The Deputy Country Director – Program will provide strategic, programmatic and operational leadership across Relief International’s Sudan and Chad portfolio. As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will oversee programme quality, delivery and growth, ensuring humanitarian and development interventions are impactful, compliant and responsive to evolving needs. Working closely with country teams, global technical advisors, donors and partners, you will play a critical role in driving programme excellence, resource mobilization and organizational performance across a complex and dynamic operating environment.

Your Responsibilities

This role includes the following responsibilities.

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of Relief International’s multi-sector programme portfolio, ensuring alignment with country strategies, organizational priorities and donor requirements.
  • Lead programme implementation, budget management and operational performance to ensure high-quality, timely and compliant delivery of interventions.
  • Drive programme development, fundraising and partnership engagement through the development of evidence-based concepts, proposals and strategic initiatives.
  • Strengthen MEAL, quality assurance and risk management systems to improve programme impact, accountability and learning.
  • Build and lead high-performing teams while representing Relief International with donors, authorities, partners and coordination forums. This role requires regular travel within Sudan and to Chad.

About You

You will bring the following experience and skills.

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field, or a bachelor’s degree with equivalent professional experience.
  • Substantial proven experience providing senior leadership and programme oversight within humanitarian and/or development contexts.
  • Strong experience working with institutional donors, including UN agencies, ECHO, US Government donors, the European Union and FCDO.
  • Demonstrated expertise in programme development, project management, coordination, strategic planning and partnership management.
  • Experience overseeing multi-sector programmes, including areas such as Health and Nutrition, WASH and Livelihoods.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication and external representation skills, with experience managing and developing teams.
  • Professional fluency in English is essential. Experience in Sudan and/or Chad, experience in conflict-affected settings, and Arabic and/or French language skills are highly desirable.
