Deputy Principal – High Standards Teaching

AucklandRemote

AI Summary

Deputy Principal leading a strategic portfolio at an online charter school, coaching teachers, embedding assessment for learning, and managing professional growth and certification.

About this role

Permanent, full-time · Aotearoa Infinite Academy · Includes a teaching component · Start Term 1, 2027

Great learning starts with great teaching. Lead it. Aotearoa Infinite Academy, New Zealand's first online charter school, is a thriving community growing to 2,000 students in 2027. To bring our goals for our learners to life, we're expanding our senior leadership team from two to six Deputy Principals, each leading a strategic portfolio shaped by the Golden Circle. This is a HOW role: you'll grow the practice of every teacher through coaching, a shared theory of learning and assessment for learning, all in an online setting.

What you'll lead

please note may be subject to change

  • Coaching. Run coaching cycles, live-session observations and walkthroughs of online learning.

  • Theory of learning. Embed our school's theory of learning and assessment for learning practice schoolwide.

  • Professional growth. Oversee the professional growth cycle and teaching as inquiry.

  • Beginning teachers. Lead PCT induction, the mentor programme and release time.

  • Staff PLD. Own the PLD plan, the staff meeting PLD calendar and teacher-only days.

  • Certification. Manage Teaching Council certification endorsements and practicum liaison.

  • PLD delivery. Manage PLD delivery and any external bookings with the Operations Manager.

Who you are

We want people who are loyal to our vision, passionate about doing things differently, hard-working and unafraid of change and innovation. You'll also bring:

  • A highly effective teacher with a full practising certificate, whose practice others want to learn from.

  • Experienced in coaching or mentoring colleagues, ideally with formal coaching training.

  • Grounded in learning science and assessment for learning, and able to make research practical.

  • Organised enough to run a full-year PLD programme and its budget.

  • Trusted by colleagues: you give honest, supportive feedback that changes practice.

What we offer

A newly created role in an expanded, collaborative leadership team at a thriving, fast-growing school, with a teaching component that keeps you connected to learners. Like every DP, you'll report to the Board on your portfolio, line-manage portfolio leaders, contribute to staff PLD and share the duty roster. Competitive remuneration.
