Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities

• Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
• Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
• Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

You will be responsible for the design, build and run of the underlying OSS infrastructure and toolchains deployed across cloud and On-Prem that is required to run the Barclays Global Network.

To be successful in this role as a Developer you should possess the following skillsets:

Essential Skills:

• Should be highly proficient in the use of AB initio development and standard techniques (On UNIX and Hadoop, Linux).

• Strong understanding of Data Structure and Algorithms. Experience in implementing Medium to Big scale data solutions Strong SQL skills in Hive impala and AWS DB technologies such as Athena.

• Experience on AWS and cloud platforms

• Overall job scheduling knowledge on TWS

• Experience in scripting language like DBT, Python, Databricks and Shell scripting etc

• Should be able to work in an agile environment with evolving demands and increasing expectations.

Desired Skills:

• Credit Risk banking experience

• Regulatory experience (IFRS9/ BCBS) with control and compliance implementations

• Managing development teams under Cloud and Hadoop technologies

• Previous experience within Finance, Treasury and Risk functions
