Role Summary
We are looking for a Simulation Engineer / Physicist (m/w/d) to model, understand and optimize advanced electron-beam systems and MEMS-based components.
The role combines electron optics, charged-particle simulation and multiphysics modeling, with a strong emphasis on understanding the underlying physics and translating that knowledge into robust and manufacturable designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Simulate electron-beam columns and electron-optical components using tools such as Opera, CST, COMSOL, Ansys and custom Python code.
- Analyze and optimize electron-optical performance, using a strong theoretical understanding to identify key physical mechanisms and design parameters.
- Improve system performance through geometrical, electrical and conceptual design modifications.
- Model MEMS physics and process-dependent behavior, including electrostatic and electromechanical effects.
- Perform coupled analysis of electromagnetic, mechanical, thermal and acoustic behavior, including EMI and system sensitivity.
- Perform tolerance, sensitivity and process-window analysis to understand design robustness and the impact of manufacturing variations.
- Support design for manufacturability (DfM) by translating simulation results into practical design requirements and tolerances.
- Develop Python-based simulation, analysis and optimization tools and correlate models with experimental results.
- Present complex simulation results as clear conclusions and design recommendations to specialists and broader technical audiences.
Qualifications & Skills
- Degree in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Strong foundation in electron optics, charged-particle physics, electromagnetics or related physics.
- Experience with numerical simulation and physical modeling.
- Good Python programming skills for scientific computing, simulation and data analysis.
- Experience with one or more relevant simulation tools such as Opera, CST, COMSOL or Ansys.
- Knowledge of MEMS, electromechanical, thermal or acoustic physics is an advantage.
- Strong analytical thinking and the ability to connect theory, simulation and practical engineering decisions.
- Ability to communicate complex technical results clearly and systematically.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
