Responsible for software architecture design for embedded AD/AS systems, translating requirements into unified logical and physical architectures while considering hardware constraints and collaboration with hardware engineers.

About this role

About Woven by Toyota
Woven by Toyota is enabling Toyota’s once-in-a-century transformation into a mobility company. Inspired by a legacy of innovating for the benefit of others, our mission is to challenge the current state of mobility through human-centric innovation — expanding what “mobility” means and how it serves society.

Our work centers on four pillars: AD/ADAS, our autonomous driving and advanced driver assist technologies; Arene, our software development platform for software-defined vehicles; Woven City, a test course for mobility; and Cloud & AI, the digital infrastructure powering our collaborative foundation. Business-critical functions empower these teams to execute, and together, we’re working toward one bold goal: a world with zero accidents and enhanced well-being for all.

=========================================================================

TEAM
Our mission is to design the best software architecture for our customers, taking into account various AD/ADAS system requirements, preconditions, specifications, and constraints. We focus on two types of architecture:
・Abstract logical architecture that provides guidelines for some AD/ADAS function placement
・Physical architecture that takes hardware performance and constraints into account
The software architecture we build must satisfy the customer's requirements in terms of quality, cost, etc. to the greatest extent.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
As an engineer in our team, you’ll be responsible mostly for software architecture design. You’ll speak with other departments to understand requirements, build logical structures, and decide on functional placement while considering physical constraints, among other architecture design tasks.
You will report to the Engineering Manager and come to our office 3 days per week according to our hybrid work policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Together with software and hardware engineers, design and write a unified AD/ADAS Logical Architecture specification for embedded software systems
  • Acquire functional and non-functional requirements from various suppliers and partners
  • Prioritize requirements and constraints with stakeholders and design the optimal logical architecture that best meets their requirements
  • Consider CPU and software component placement and scheduling theory development and design, taking into account hardware constraints. Budget design of memory and other components
  • Measure of HW budgets, such as processing load and memory size, and study countermeasure planning when budgets are exceeded
  • Create unified AD/ADAS Logical and physical Architecture design strategy and development process
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years of experience embedded software and architecture design
  • Experience in defining requirements for automotive embedded software development
  • Knowledge of software development for SoC-based embedded systems equipped with multiple cores, GPUs, hardware accelerators, etc.
  • Knowledge of software platforms and middlewares, e.g., POSIX, RTOS, Ubuntu, ROS, QNX, etc.
  • Knowledge of programming languages, preferably in C++
  • Japanese language skills at business level or above, and conversational-level English communication ability of TOEIC 600 or higher
  • NICE TO HAVES

  • Ph.D. or M.S. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields
  • Experience in developing AD/ADAS systems
