Embedded Software Engineer - Battery Management
AI Summary
Designs, develops and maintains battery and power-management firmware for microcontrollers, including fuel-gauge drivers, charge control and thermal mitigation, and debugs hardware-software failures in wearable devices.
About this role
About the job
Delart is home to a team of world-class engineers and project leaders dedicated to developing the next generation of advanced networking technologies, consumer devices, and innovative technology solutions. Trusted by some of the world’s leading technology companies, we deliver highly scalable, mission-critical solutions that power both consumer and business applications globally. Since our founding in 2017, we have been at the forefront of designing cutting-edge networking, telecommunications, and consumer products, while driving end-to-end project execution and creating transformative technology applications.
Overview
Join our team developing the embedded software that powers next-generation wearable devices, focusing on battery management and power systems. You will architect and deliver firmware that interacts directly with battery hardware, ensuring reliable, efficient, and safe device operation for millions of users.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain battery and power-management firmware for resource-constrained microcontrollers, including fuel-gauge drivers, charge control, and thermal mitigation.
- Integrate and validate fuel gauges and charger ICs at the register level: configuring NVM, setting protection thresholds, implementing JEITA profiles, and supporting capacity-learning features.
- Develop the device-side telemetry stack for battery data, ensuring signals are validated end-to-end against hardware ground truth and actionable for field diagnostics.
- Diagnose and root-cause complex field and laboratory failures that cross hardware/software boundaries, distinguishing root triggers whether in firmware, silicon, or power management peripherals.
- Collaborate with electrical engineering, cell suppliers, hardware validation, and product teams, translating between component specifications and observed fleet behaviors.
- Drive firmware correctness and reliability, particularly in safety-critical decisions like charge termination and power-off thresholds.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience developing production-grade embedded C for microcontrollers.
- Direct experience with embedded RTOS environments (Zephyr, FreeRTOS, or similar) and bare-metal firmware bring-up.
- Demonstrated skill developing I2C and SPI peripheral drivers, with hands-on debugging using logic or protocol analyzers.
- Experience integrating and debugging Linux kernel drivers, especially within the power supply subsystem.
- Proficient in reading datasheets and implementing register-level and bitfield logic, including management of errata.
- Proven ability to debug on real hardware using JTAG/SWD, serial consoles, and bench instrumentation (e.g., power analyzers, SMUs, thermal chambers).
- Python proficiency for test automation, device log parsing, and field data analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with battery management technologies: fuel gauges, coulomb counting, OCV/impedance-based SoC estimation, charger ICs, JEITA charging, battery NVM configuration, and protection circuits.
- In-depth knowledge of lithium-ion cell behavior, including aging, temperature effects, and failure mechanisms to inform conversations with suppliers and engineering peers.
- Experience analyzing data at fleet scale with SQL or equivalent analytics tools, with a bias toward validating fixes against real-world field data.
- Ownership of hardware components across consumer product lifecycles, including EVT, DVT, PVT, and factory bring-up, with active involvement in failure-analysis loops.
- Track record of responding to production incidents for shipped hardware in the field.
