About this role

Engagement Manager

About America Makes

America Makes is the Nation’s leading public-private partnership for Additive Manufacturing (AM) technology and education. Our members from industry, academia, government, workforce, and economic development organizations, work together to accelerate the adoption of AM and the nation’s global manufacturing competitiveness, focusing on four core missions - Technology Development, Workforce Development, Industrial Base Integration, and Technology Transition.

About the role and team

As Engagement Manager, you will be part of a diverse team that is collaborating to grow and mature the additive manufacturing ecosystem, which is comprised of membership, government stakeholders, and the larger AM community. The Engagement Manager will be responsible for membership acquisition and retention, curating the additive manufacturing community, generating and leveraging ecosystem data for decision making, and working with the Industrial Base Integration Director and larger team on ecosystem expansion activities across the Nation. As owner of these activities and primary contact for Membership, the Engagement Manager will play a critical role in delivering value to membership, the additive manufacturing ecosystem, and the larger mission. In addition to America Makes membership, the Engagement Manager will play a key role in curating and leveraging the NCDMM Alliance Partner network, ensuring that strategic partnerships and collaborations further enhance the additive manufacturing ecosystem and support the broader mission of NCDMM.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative, communicative, and creative team player with a passion for additive manufacturing and customer service. They bring applicable experience in driving stakeholder engagement, economic development expertise, and growing ecosystem and communities. The candidate is detail and task oriented as this role requires the team member to both think strategically and execute tasks operationally.

The team culture is innovative, creative, and fast paced. Members of the team need to be adaptive and thrive in an ambiguous environment. This role is part of a collaborative team, but a candidate with a "self-starter" personality who has high emotional intelligence will thrive in this role.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Evaluate and continually improve the membership model to drive growth in membership numbers, diversity, and revenue.
  • Develop an effective and efficient membership recruitment and acquisition process, including lead generation, lead conversion, and customer relationship management process.
  • Lead and manage membership resources and processes, including the role of Senior Membership Coordinator, membership-centric tools, and content.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to identify industry centric gaps in stakeholder composition and develop plans to proactively recruit members to support the mission.
  • Seek and leverage data sources to inform decision making of self, the larger America Makes team, and the additive manufacturing ecosystem.
  • Grow and maintain an inclusive, diverse, and engaged team culture who is aligned around membership value generation and performance.
  • Curate and expand the NCDMM Alliance Partner network, identifying and nurturing relationships with organizations that complement America Makes membership and drive collaborative impact across the ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with the Communication and Event team on developing and executing the America Makes “convening” strategy and plan, driving stakeholder awareness of the Institute’s mission.

On a typical day, you might:

  • Work with the Membership Coordinator on membership retention, supporting renewals through improved value proposition documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Ecosystem Director on identifying data sources for regional economic growth that will be leveraged to inform scaling of ecosystem expansion activities.
  • Meet with a non-profit organization to advance a Memorandum of Understanding, agreeing on how the two organizations will support each other in mission execution.
  • Ideate with the Communications team on awareness campaign approaches targeting a new industry sector.
  • Engage with the local Economic Development Council to drive alignment on a path forward to advance economic development agendas in Northeast Ohio.
  • Report out to America Makes Leadership on status and next steps of an ongoing membership acquisition program.
  • Facilitate cross-network introductions and collaborations, connecting America Makes members with Alliance Partners for mutual benefit.
  • Speak at an event within the region about the importance of the public-private-partner collaborative research and training model.

About our ideal candidate:

  • You have a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree is preferred) in Business or related field as well as five to seven (5-7) years of experience in a membership / customer-service centric position.
  • You have successfully identified and converted customer acquisition leads through understanding and addressing stakeholder needs.
  • You bring networking acumen to the table as the role requires significant engagement with members, stakeholders, and government partners.
  • You have demonstrated ability to lead stakeholder and partnership development programs, designed to increase engagement, drive mission impact, and grow ecosystem value generation.
  • You like to travel to meet and convene the ecosystem at trade shows, conferences, and industry gatherings.
  • You have relevant experience operating in a technology maturation and advanced manufacturing space.

Additional things about you:

  • You are self-directed and have demonstrated ability to prioritize independently to meet deadlines and drive mission impact.
  • You like to work collaboratively with others to bring an idea to life.
  • You have a passion for serving the nation and improving the U.S. global manufacturing competitiveness.
  • You have excellent interpersonal skills and understand how to support stakeholders needs.
