Engineering Manager

Location: Vilnius, Lithuania (Hybrid or Office-based)

Position Summary:
Bentley Systems is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the SYNCHRO Software engineering group in Vilnius and Kaunas. SYNCHRO is Bentley's industry-leading platform for 4D construction, connecting design to field reality at infrastructure scale.

You will lead a team of around 10+ engineers working across the SYNCHRO 4D Pro desktop product and the next generation, Scheduling Platform covering the user interface and cloud APIs. You will be responsible strategically balancing continuous improvements for an active user base with critical development decisions for the next-generation platform.

Working in an equal partnership with Product and Design, you will represent the engineering voice in shaping priorities and shared outcomes. Rather than day-to-day coding, your mission is to empower a high-performing team, establish high-velocity delivery processes, and lead organizational growth while aligning technical excellence with Bentley's global Model Centric Construction strategy.

Responsibilities:

• Lead, grow, and mentor a team of around 10+ software engineers across the current generation SYNCHRO 4D Pro product and the next generation Scheduling Platform, including its UI and APIs.

• Partner as an equal with Product Management and Design to define and deliver a quarterly roadmap that aligns with Bentley's broader Model Centric Construction goals, sharing ownership of user outcomes as well as delivery.

• Own hiring for the group, from defining roles and raising the bar in interviews through to onboarding and retention, as the team continues to scale.

• Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and technical growth

• Balance investment between sustaining and improving the current generation product and delivering the next generation platform, making the trade-offs explicit and defensible.

• Establish, review, and refine software delivery processes; identify operational gaps, implement performance management frameworks, and establish clear engineering metrics to track team velocity and quality.

• Ensure the team meets delivery milestones with a focus on predictability, quality, and performance.

• Act as a technical sounding board and architectural guide for your engineers. Drive architectural decisions and maintain high standards for code quality across native desktop, web, and cloud services.

• Serve as the primary engineering voice in technical reviews, user escalations, and partner engagements.

• Actively champion the adoption of AI-assisted development practices across the development lifecycle, from design and coding through review and testing.

• Stay at the forefront of emerging technologies to maintain the product's competitive edge in the BIM and construction technology space.

• Coordinate with global engineering leadership to ensure architectural consistency and shared best practices.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of engineering management or team lead experience with direct people management responsibility, including coaching, one-to-ones, performance evaluations, and hiring.

• A track record of growing and scaling engineering teams.

• Experience working as a peer to Product and Design, shaping what gets built along with how it is delivered.

• Demonstrable hands-on background in software engineering as a developer, architect, or technical lead, sufficient to engage credibly in architectural discussions and system design trade-offs.

• Proven ability to build, retain, and develop high-performing teams in a distributed, international environment

• Experience owning both an established product and new development in parallel, and managing the tension between them.

• Experience with Agile delivery, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering metrics (Azure DevOps or equivalent)

• Clear, direct communicator capable of translating complex business goals into actionable engineering execution.

Desirable:

• Technical background in one or more of: React and TypeScript, .NET, C++, cloud-native architecture (Azure preferred), or enterprise desktop applications.

• Experience modernizing or replacing a long-lived product while keeping it in service.

• Familiarity with construction technology, BIM workflows, or geospatial platforms.
