Entry Level Facilities Technician

Routinely responsible for the maintenance and repairs to the building and grounds, related fixed portable equipment and installation under the supervision of Chief Engineer and/or Assistant Chief Engineer, while successfully performing the Apprenticeship Program.

Supports the implementation and documentation of site safety plans and all Able Engineering Services’ operational standards and guidelines, as well as site specific standards, policies and procedures relating to the engineering department.

In general, the role and tasks of the Apprentice Engineer will transition to the role of a Journeyman Engineer. The Apprentice Engineer over the term of the Apprenticeship Program will:

1. Observe a specific task assigned to a Journeyman Engineer – one or many times depending on the complexity of the task.
2. Perform that task under the direction of the Journeyman Engineer – one or many times depending on the complexity of the task and when the Journeyman is satisfied that the Apprentice Engineer has mastered the task.
3. Perform that task under the direction of the Chief Engineer to approve and confirm that the Apprentice Engineer has mastered the task.
4. Once the task has been mastered to the satisfaction of the Chief Engineer, the Apprentice Engineer will perform the task with little or no supervision.

This task specific training procedure will occur again and again with all of the tasks at the facility over the term of the Apprenticeship Program, and is the foundation of the Able Engineering Services’ Apprenticeship Program.

2. Maintains and cleans mechanical, electrical and shop areas.
3. Demonstrates commitment to learn all facets of the trade, specific building and industry in general.
4. Coordinates parts, supplies, and equipment from local vendors and inventory.
5. Performs simple procedures and tasks and other routine maintenance duties.
6. Performs miscellaneous tasks as assigned by the Chief Engineer and Assistant Chief Engineer.

• Under the direction of a Journeyman Engineer maintains and performs repairs to buildings, utilities, grounds and equipment.
• Under the direction of a Journeyman Engineer optimize the repair and maintenance of HVAC, electrical and pluming equipment and systems. Uses and helps provide best practices to troubleshoot and repair equipment and system problems so that problems are resolved in the most efficient and effective manner.
• Fosters a work environment that promotes energy conservation and continuous improvement of engineering functions.
• As appropriate, records all pertinent data in building logbooks and makes all appropriate daily entries.
• Process administrative paperwork in accordance to departmental policies and procedures.
• Stay abreast of the latest technology as related to building systems and equipment, and emergency response regarding fire and life safety.
• Actively functions as a team member.
• Demonstrates commitment to quality of service.
• Complies with Able Engineering Services’ and facility’s policies and procedures.
• Complies and participates with Able Engineering Services’ safety program.
• Complies and participates in facility specific safety program.
• Maintains regular attendance in the workplace.
• Provides highest quality of service to the tenants, staff and visitors at the facility.
• Participates in regular required communication with Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, management, tenants and other staff.

Successfully qualifies for approved Apprenticeship Program.

Successfully completes all milestones of Apprenticeship Program.
