The Facilities HVAC Technician I is a hands-on technical role that requires someone who is both a capable team player and a self-motivated worker. The candidate we are in search of will need to be comfortable performing installations, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and equipment servicing. They need to be able to follow instructions from supervisory staff while also applying problem-solving and critical thinking when troubleshooting system issues. In addition, the candidate must be committed to developing technical expertise through ongoing training and industry certifications. Overall, this candidate will want to support their teammates and the people they serve, build trust through respect, and win together.
Here is what the role looks like:
As the Facilities HVAC Technician I, you will provide hands-on support that maintains the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across GTA's facilities. This includes installing, servicing, and repairing HVAC systems to support reliable building operations. Other essential job functions include:
- Installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems according to company standards and local building codes
- Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to support system diagnostics and service work
- Utilizes hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment safely and correctly for diagnostic and repair activities
- Applies basic math skills to take measurements and calculate numerical values for system specifications
- Supports load-in and unload-out of materials and equipment as required by daily operations
- Adheres to all applicable safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements daily
- Maintains a clean and organized work area in accordance with facility standards
- Performs general housekeeping duties to ensure safe and efficient operational conditions
- Completes tasks assigned in a timely and efficient manner consistent with service delivery expectations
- Follows oral and written instructions provided by supervisory staff
- Applies problem-solving and critical thinking methods when troubleshooting system issues
- Participates in required on-the-job training to develop technical competency and certification progress
- Communicates effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and customers regarding work status and findings
- Demonstrates customer service orientation when interacting with internal teams and facility occupants
- Paints buildings, offices, equipment, and furniture as needed
- Performs other related duties and special projects assigned to support evolving business priorities

Here’s what you need to have:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record (essential for job-related travel and site access)
- EPA(608) certification for handling refrigerant
- Commitment to obtaining and maintaining relevant industry certifications including HVAC, EPA, OSHA, and other position-required credentials as part of ongoing professional development
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
- General knowledge of the standard methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems
- Ability to apply basic math skills to take measurements and calculate numerical values for system specifications
- Ability to apply safe work practices on the job and adhere to all applicable safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to safely climb ladders and work at heights up to 15 feet
- Ability to work in confined spaces and varying environmental conditions
- Work flexible hours (including evenings, weekends, and extended hours as operationally required)
- Work in other locations as the needs of the business require
- Possess, and the ability to maintain, a valid driver's license
