The Facilities Service Worker is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, functionality, and overall physical condition of an NPCRS MHRC facility. This role performs routine maintenance, janitorial duties, groundskeeping, minor repairs, and coordinates with vendors to ensure the facility meets all applicable health, safety, and licensing standards.

The Facilities Service Worker plays a critical role in creating a safe and therapeutic environment for residents living with serious mental illness. This position requires a reliable, detail-oriented individual who understands the importance of maintaining a dignified, respectful, and welcoming living space for all residents in our care.


Facility Maintenance & Repairs

  • Perform routine inspections of the facility, identifying and reporting maintenance needs, safety hazards, and equipment malfunctions
  • Complete minor repairs including plumbing fixes, carpentry, painting, drywall patching, door hardware, and lighting replacements
  • Ensure all mechanical systems — including HVAC, plumbing, electrical panels, and fire safety equipment — are operational and serviced on schedule
  • Coordinate with licensed contractors and vendors for repairs and services beyond the scope of in-house maintenance
  • Maintain a preventive maintenance schedule for all facility equipment, appliances, and building systems
  • Respond promptly to urgent maintenance requests

Janitorial & Sanitation Services

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout all areas of the facility including resident rooms, common areas, bathrooms, kitchen, laundry rooms, offices, and outdoor spaces
  • Perform daily, weekly, and deep-cleaning tasks in accordance with NPCRS standards and California DHCS licensing requirements
  • Ensure proper disposal of trash, recycling, and regulated medical or sharps waste in compliance with applicable health and safety regulations
  • Monitor and restock janitorial supplies, cleaning products, and personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed
  • Maintain cleaning logs and sanitation records as required by DHCS and NPCRS policy


Groundskeeping & Exterior Maintenance

  • Maintain facility grounds including landscaping, lawn care, pruning, and seasonal upkeep
  • Ensure exterior walkways, parking areas, and entry points are clean, safe, and free of hazards
  • Perform seasonal tasks such as leaf removal, gutter cleaning, and weather-related safety preparations
  • Maintain the overall curb appeal and exterior condition of the facility consistent with NPCRS standards


Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure the facility meets all applicable fire safety, health, and building code requirements at all times
  • Conduct and document routine fire extinguisher checks, exit sign inspections, emergency lighting tests, and smoke detector maintenance
  • Support DHCS licensing inspections, audits, and site reviews by maintaining facility readiness and documentation
  • Report any observed safety hazards, resident incidents, or facility concerns to the Program Director immediately
  • Follow all NPCRS infection control, hazardous materials handling, and OSHA safety protocols
  • Maintain compliance with Title 22 physical plant requirements for licensed residential care facilities


Supply & Inventory Management

  • Monitor and maintain inventory of maintenance supplies, cleaning products, tools, and equipment
  • Submit purchase requests for supplies and equipment through the approved NPCRS procurement process
  • Organize and maintain the facility storage areas, maintenance rooms, and equipment in a safe and orderly manner
  • Track and document all facility-related expenditures and vendor invoices for review by the Program Director


Resident Environment & Therapeutic Milieu

  • Maintain awareness of the therapeutic nature of the MHRC environment and approach all work with sensitivity and respect for residents in psychiatric recovery
  • Perform maintenance tasks in resident areas with minimal disruption to daily programming and residential routines
  • Report any concerns about resident behavior, welfare, or safety observed during the course of facility duties to clinical or administrative staff
  • Contribute to a welcoming, dignified, and recovery-oriented living environment through consistent attention to the physical condition of the facility

QUALIFICATIONS


Required

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in building maintenance, janitorial services, groundskeeping, or a related facilities role
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general building systems
  • Ability to operate standard maintenance tools, equipment, and cleaning machinery safely
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards, hazardous materials handling, and proper use of PPE
  • Ability to read and follow written maintenance instructions, safety data sheets (SDS), and work orders
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety
  • Valid California driver’s license
  • Ability to pass a background check in accordance with California DHCS licensing requirements


Preferred

  • Experience working in a residential care, healthcare, or behavioral health facility
  • Knowledge of California DHCS Title 22 physical plant requirements for licensed residential facilities
  • Certification in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or a related trade
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
  • Experience coordinating with outside vendors and contractors
  • Bilingual or multilingual capabilities
