Join our Network Operations team as a Fibre Optic Specialist, where you’ll play a key role in ensuring the stability, resilience, and future growth of Melita’s national fibre backbone. This role blends hands-on fieldwork with technical leadership, giving you the chance to directly influence how our network evolves and delivers for thousands of customers.

In this role, you will:

• Oversee and enhance Melita’s Fibre Backbone: Drive capacity growth, resilience, and ensure seamless operations across the network.

• Lead on field and desk operations: From updating GIS maps and preparing schedules to supporting technicians in the field with splicing and network testing.

• Ensure network excellence: Use advanced diagnostic tools such as OTDR to troubleshoot, identify, and resolve issues including cable damage, signal degradation, and system faults.

• Design and future-proof infrastructure: Work with engineers to plan robust, scalable, and standards-compliant fibre optic networks.

• Mentor and support teams: Train, supervise, and inspire fibre technicians, ensuring skills growth and high-quality work standards.

• Champion safety and reliability: Conduct inspections, enforce compliance with industry standards (GPON, WDM, ITU), and ensure customer impact is minimised during major operations.

Requirements

What you bring:

• 5+ years leading technical teams and managing on-site operations.

• Strong expertise in fibre optic systems, splicing, testing, and fault resolution.

• Familiarity with industry standards such as GPON, WDM, ITU, and hands-on experience with Layer 1 and 2 telecoms.

• The ability to remain calm under pressure, delivering efficient solutions during outages or emergencies.

• Flexibility to work evenings or on standby, ensuring customer services remain uninterrupted.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills to coordinate with internal teams and external partners.
