Firefighter: Paramedic & EMT

*If already a Paramedic, Fire certs I & II are not required upon applying but must be obtained if hired. If not a Paramedic, both are required upon applying.
*CPAT is required for all non-lateral transfers.

JOB DESCRIPTION & REQUIREMENTS
Firefighter/Paramedic
Firefighter/Paramedics are responsible for providing fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services. They are expected to deliver Advanced Life Support (ALS) care on medical calls and to effectively assist with fire operations during emergencies.

• Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Respond to all fire and emergency medical calls, providing both firefighting and medical support.
  • Administer ALS care (e.g., intubation, medication administration, advanced monitoring) on medical calls.
  • Participate in firefighting operations, including suppression, search and rescue, and ventilation.
  • Assist with vehicle extrication, hazardous materials response, and other technical rescue operations.
  • Complete all necessary patient care documentation and reports.
  • Maintain physical fitness and participate in ongoing training in both fire suppression and EMS protocols.
  • Follow safety protocols, ensuring personal and team safety at all times.

Expectations:

• • Maintain certifications as a Firefighter I & II and Paramedic.
  • Attend and actively participate in scheduled training sessions (fire, EMS, technical rescue).
  • Demonstrate leadership in emergency scenes by following incident command and maintaining situational awareness.
  • Maintain excellent physical and mental fitness to perform the demands of the job.
  • Comply with department policies and procedures, including cleanliness and readiness of equipment and apparatus.

Firefighter/EMT
Firefighter/EMTs provide fire suppression and emergency medical services at the Basic Life Support (BLS) level. They assist in all firefighting operations and are a crucial part of the EMS team.

• Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Respond to fire and medical emergencies, providing BLS care (e.g., CPR, basic airway management, splinting).
  • Participate in fire suppression activities, including rescue operations, pump operations, and fire control.

o Maintain physical fitness and participate in ongoing training in both fire suppression and EMS protocols.

• • Assist in vehicle extrication, HAZMAT response, and technical rescues as needed.
  • Operate department apparatus and ensure its readiness for emergency response.
  • Document patient care and assist with medical records as necessary.
  • Participate in ongoing fire and EMS training to ensure skills are maintained.

Expectations:

• • Maintain certifications as a Firefighter I & II and EMT.
  • Obtain paramedic certification within 2 years of starting class.
  • Attend scheduled training sessions and participate in drills and exercises.
  • Follow all department safety protocols and policies.
  • Actively engage in maintaining the cleanliness and operational readiness of equipment.
  • Support higher-ranking personnel during emergency responses by following commands and assisting with operations.
