Internship Overview

Contribute to pre-silicon verification of embedded firmware that controls high-performance power management ICs for data center, AI accelerator, networking, and computing platforms. Work with experienced firmware, RTL, architecture, and validation engineers while building practical skills in embedded systems, simulation, automation, debugging, and engineering documentation.

What You Will Do

• Assist in developing and maintaining simulation tests that exercise ARM Cortex-M firmware with hardware models.
• Execute existing firmware regression tests and help analyze logs, waveforms, memory contents, and register traces.
• Create directed tests for reset, boot, initialization, configuration, sequencing, telemetry, protection, fault handling, and recovery scenarios.
• Write Python, Perl, or similar scripts to automate test execution, result checking, or failure classification.
• Help reproduce issues and isolate whether failures originate in firmware, RTL, hardware models, testbench components, or tools.
• Learn and apply verification practices such as requirements traceability, functional coverage, code coverage, negative testing, boundary testing, and regression quality tracking.
• Document test procedures, results, debug findings, known issues, and recommended follow-up actions.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Coursework or project experience in embedded systems, computer architecture, microcontrollers, digital logic, or software testing.
• Working knowledge of C or C++, ARM Assembly, and basic understanding of low-level programming concepts such as memory, registers, interrupts, and peripherals.
• Basic scripting experience with Python, Perl, or a similar language.
• Ability to analyze technical problems methodically, communicate findings clearly, and work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience from coursework, labs, research, or personal projects involving ARM Cortex-M or other embedded processors.
• Familiarity with SystemVerilog, Verilog, digital simulation, or structured testbenches.
• Experience using Git or another version-control system and working in a Linux development environment.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, unit testing, QEMU, FPGA prototyping, or virtual platforms.
• Basic understanding of power electronics, voltage regulation, telemetry, sequencing, or protection features.

Learning and Development Opportunities

• Hands-on experience with the embedded firmware development and verification lifecycle.
• Practical exposure to pre-silicon simulation, regression testing, waveform analysis, and firmware-hardware debug.
• An opportunity to complete a meaningful technical project and present results and recommendations to the engineering team.
