Role Overview
ABS Global, a Genus Company, is seeking a Genetic Data Applications Intern to join our Dairy Product Development Team in DeForest, Wisconsin (greater Madison area). This internship offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of genetics, data, and business decision-making while collaborating with a team of PhD geneticists and data professionals. The intern will support the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of applications, programs, and data pipelines that provide critical insights across our dairy business. Through hands-on experience with root cause analysis, data pipeline optimization, application enhancement, and data-driven decision-making, the intern will gain valuable exposure to real-world business challenges, process improvement initiatives, and cross-functional collaboration. This role is ideal for a highly analytical individual with an interest in data applications, quantitative analysis, and advancing genetic improvement through innovative technology solutions.
In this position you will work 40 hours per week, typically during normal office hours, but times could range on a day-to-day basis.
The hourly compensation range for this position is ($20 - $24) USD. The compensation provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Essential duties and responsibilities
You will:
- Use various statistical and analytic tools to complete data mining, data pipeline development, and data analysis.
- Conduct experiment design and/or investigate new models and methods.
- Generate information to inform genetic strategies, genetic program development, and custom genetic indices in support of advances within the ABS proprietary genetic program.
- Uphold the Genus core values, mission, and vision.
- Position may require working outside of normal business hours.
- Perform other projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications: (required)
- MS or PhD student in Animal Science, Plant Science, Quantitative Genetics, Statistics, Data Science, or related field, required
- Strong analytical skills, familiarity with statistical packages (R, Python, etc.), and preferred experience with scripting or programming tools
- Available for at least 12 weeks during the summer
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with genetic/genomic data, bioinformatics, estimating breeding values, and/or breeding index development.
- Direct agricultural experience (plant or animal).
- Strong interest in genetic data analysis, using data to develop on-farm genetic strategies, genetic program development, and custom genetic indices.
