AlphaGov is seeking an experienced government business development professional to build agency relationships, originate consulting opportunities, and develop teaming partnerships.
You’ll work directly with our Managing Partner, supported by a dedicated proposal team and a multidisciplinary subject-matter expert network. Your focus will be identifying agency needs, opening doors before solicitations are released, and developing qualified opportunities aligned with AlphaGov’s expertise.
We are primarily seeking independent contractors interested in commission-based compensation. W-2 employment may be considered for highly qualified candidates with a demonstrated record of winning relevant government business.

What You’ll Do
- Originate and qualify government consulting opportunities aligned with AlphaGov’s services.
- Build relationships with agency leaders, program managers, HR executives, and procurement teams.
- Identify upcoming needs through agency priorities, procurement forecasts, direct outreach, and industry events.
- Develop teaming and subcontracting relationships with government contractors and consulting firms.
- Support bid/no-bid decisions and capture planning with buyer insights, competitive intelligence, and positioning recommendations.
- Coordinate with our proposal team on sources-sought notices, requests for information, and competitive solicitations.
- Maintain clear opportunity records, anticipated procurement timelines, and next steps.
- Follow applicable procurement communication rules and AlphaGov’s opportunity approval process.
Success means developing relationships and qualified pursuits that lead to business—not simply forwarding public RFP listings.
Requirements
What We’re Looking For
- At least three years of business development experience selling services to federal, state, or local government.
- A demonstrated record of originating opportunities, developing productive teaming relationships, or helping secure government contracts.
- Working knowledge of public procurement, competitive solicitations, and government sales cycles.
- Strong communication, relationship development, and opportunity qualification skills.
- Ability to explain your personal contribution to previous pursuits and their outcomes.
- Ability to develop a pipeline independently and maintain momentum through lengthy procurement cycles.
Experience in either federal contracting or state and local government is sufficient. You do not need an established network across every market.
Preferred Experience
- Selling consulting, workforce services, research, analytics, organizational improvement, or program evaluation.
- Established relationships with buyers in AlphaGov’s service areas.
- Capture management for competitive government opportunities.
- Developing prime contractor and subcontractor partnerships.

Engagement and Compensation
We are open to discussing the appropriate arrangement based on your experience, relevant relationships, demonstrated results, and proposed responsibilities.
Independent contractor opportunities: Commission-based compensation with no base salary. Commission rates and terms will be agreed in writing before work begins, including eligible opportunities, revenue attribution, and payment timing.
Potential W-2 opportunities: Employment may be considered for highly qualified candidates whose experience and proposed scope support an employee role. Compensation and employment terms will be discussed during the selection process.
