About the Opportunity

Energy Division | Nuclear

Amentum is seeking an experienced senior business leader to lead and grow a substantial portfolio supporting the lifetime operation of nuclear facilities in the UK and internationally.

This newly created Group Director role will initially bring together our major professional services and project management relationships supporting one of our strategically important UK clients, alongside responsibility for developing our wider lifetime operations portfolio with existing and new clients.

Reporting directly to the Vice President, Energy Division, you will have leadership and P&L accountability for a portfolio of approximately £60m annual revenue, supported by established teams delivering technically complex services across the UK nuclear fleet.

This is both a significant operational leadership role and a growth opportunity. You will inherit a strong and established business while being expected to shape its next phase: strengthening client relationships and performance, developing our people and leadership capability, and expanding Amentum’s position in the growing international market for nuclear lifetime extension and long-term operational support.

The Role

You will provide overall leadership, client focus and strategic direction for our Lifetime Operations delivery programmes.

Initially, a major part of your remit will be our long-standing relationship with a major UK client, supporting the continued operation and lifetime extension of the UK’s nuclear fleet through established professional services and project management arrangements.

You will build on strong foundations: experienced teams, significant technical and project management capability, commercial expertise and client relationships developed over many years.

Alongside this established portfolio, you will lead the development of our wider long term operations delivery business, identifying opportunities to take Amentum’s experience and capability to new clients and geographies.

You will have accountability for:

  • Overall business leadership and P&L performance across the portfolio
  • Senior client relationships and the delivery of our client mission
  • Safe, predictable and high-quality programme and operational performance
  • Commercial and financial outcomes
  • Leadership, talent development, succession and organisational capability
  • Continuous improvement and development of the portfolio
  • Strengthening and broadening our position with the client
  • Identifying, shaping and securing new long term operations and lifetime extension programmes in the UK and internationally.

Leading Through an Integrated Organisation

Success in this role will depend on your ability to lead both directly and through influence.

Our engineering and technical capabilities operate across the wider Energy organisation. You will therefore define the capability your programmes need and work across a matrix organisation to bring together the right technical, project management and specialist expertise to deliver for our clients.

You will also work alongside established senior client relationship, programme and technical leaders. Your role will be to harness that collective knowledge and relationship capital while broadening client engagement, strengthening organisational resilience and developing the next generation of leadership.

The Opportunity

This role offers the opportunity to lead a substantial and strategically important nuclear business at a pivotal point in time for the nuclear industry.

You will have:

  • Leadership and P&L accountability for a c.£60m annual portfolio
  • Direct engagement with senior stakeholders within one of the UK's most important nuclear operators
  • The opportunity to bring together and further develop established professional services and project management businesses
  • Access to significant engineering, technical and programme delivery capability
  • The mandate to strengthen performance, develop future leaders and deepen client relationships
  • Responsibility for diversification and growth in the lifetime operations and lifetime extension market
  • The opportunity to develop new programmes and client relationships across the UK, Europe and wider international nuclear market
  • A substantive senior leadership role within Amentum's Energy business, with the opportunity to influence its future direction.

Why Amentum?

The continued safe operation and lifetime extension of existing nuclear assets is becoming increasingly important as countries seek to maintain secure, reliable and low-carbon electricity generation.

Amentum has decades of experience supporting nuclear operators and programmes, combining engineering and technical expertise with programme, project and professional services capability.

Here's What You'll Need

About You

We are looking for an experienced senior leader who combines strategic perspective with strong personal client engagement and clear ownership of business outcomes.

You may already have significant nuclear sector experience, but we are equally interested in leaders from other complex, highly regulated engineering, infrastructure or professional services environments who can demonstrate the ability to lead substantial client-facing businesses.

You will bring:

  • Experience leading a significant business, programme or portfolio with commercial and financial accountability
  • A strong track record of building trusted senior client relationships and converting client insight into business outcomes
  • The ability to set direction and make sound judgements in complex and ambiguous environments
  • Evidence of improving operational and commercial performance
  • The ability to lead, influence and achieve outcomes across organisational boundaries and matrix structures
  • A strong approach to developing people, empowering leaders and building succession
  • A growth mindset and experience of identifying, shaping and securing new opportunities
  • Collaborative and credible leadership, with the ability to bring people with you through change
  • The perspective to think beyond your own portfolio and contribute to the leadership of a wider business.

Experience of nuclear operations, lifetime extension, major engineering and technical programmes or professional services frameworks would be advantageous, but it is not essential.

What matters is your ability to understand a complex client and technical environment, draw effectively on the expertise around you, establish credibility quickly and translate that into strong outcomes for clients, people and the business.

Our Culture

Our values are built on a strong foundation of safety, integrity, and respect for every individual. People are at the heart of our mission, and we believe in supporting one another through a culture of care and collaboration. We strive to create a workplace where everyone feels they belong and can thrive. Supporting mental wellbeing and fostering a sense of connection are essential to how we work.

When we embrace different perspectives and work together, we become more innovative, more agile, and more successful.
