Summary

Provides health records support by processing, scanning, indexing, retrieving, and maintaining accurate patient records. Ensures record quality and organization, prepares records for storage, supports the release of patient information for continuity of care, and performs related clerical, reception, and statistical duties.

What You Bring

Education

• Grade 12 and two years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to keyboard at 40 w.p.m.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to organize work.
• Ability to operate related equipment.

Your Day to Day:

• Retrieves, tracks, and maintains patient records using electronic record systems.
• Processes, assembles, files, and updates patient charts and documentation.
• Identifies and corrects patient information, including duplicate registrations and records.
• Locates and delivers patient records in response to departmental requests.
• Prepares, scans, indexes, and verifies electronic patient records for accuracy.
• Works with Registration and other departments to resolve documentation and record issues.
• Processes urgent requests for patient information to support continuity of care.
• Provides reception support, including answering calls, directing visitors, and responding to inquiries.
• Prepares records for offsite storage and retrieves records as required.
• Balances patient census, maintains supplies, and supports orientation of new staff and students.
