Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, graders, loaders, backhoes, and skid steer.
  • Conduct pre-operation inspections and perform routine equipment maintenance.
  • Move earth, materials, and debris according to project plans and grade specifications.
  • Read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, blueprints, and surveying markers.
  • Load and unload materials from trucks and transport vehicles.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, operating hours, and materials moved.
  • Coordinate with ground crews, supervisors, and other operators to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Operate equipment on slopes, uneven terrain, and in confined spaces.
  • Identify and report mechanical problems and assist with basic equipment repairs.
  • Follow all workplace safety regulations, traffic control procedures, and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of construction site operations and safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and grade specifications.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge for equipment inspection and maintenance.
  • Strong depth perception, spatial awareness, and hand-eye coordination.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and precision in grading, excavation, and material handling.
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions.

Education and Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a heavy equipment operator training program, vocational course, or apprenticeship preferred.

Work Environment
