This is a full time position (40 hours per week) in an established and well-resourced multi-cultural Kindergarten in the Manurewa area. The Kindergarten caters for children aged 2-5 years old in a mixed age setting, licensed from 8.00am – 3.30pm, including term breaks. There is occupancy for 40 tamariki and a 1:10 teacher to child ratio.


Homai Kindergarten enjoys strong community links including community initiatives within the Manurewa area to support our tamariki and whānau, including a daily van service.


We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Head Teacher to lead this team. Experience in a kindergarten setting, pedagogical leadership, as well as understanding of centre finances, occupancy and attendance would be an advantage, along with a commitment to professional development and on-going learning.


The successful applicant must have:

  • sound knowledge of current approaches to teaching and learning
  • be committed to on-going professional development
  • demonstrate strong and inclusive leadership qualities
  • have a passion for supporting, extending and documenting children’s learning, therefore strong ICT skills are a must.


The successful applicant will:

  • be skilled with the financial and operational aspects of managing a successful centre
  • have sound understanding of funding
  • occupancy and people management to ensure the centre thrives financially and is a great place to work


An interest in environmental sustainability would be an advantage.


Role requirements:

  • B Ed/Dip Teaching Level 7 (ECE) and current teacher registration/certification
  • Experience in pedagogical leadership
  • Good understanding of child led curriculum, planning and extending on our children’s learning
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of the current ECE Regulations, Te Whariki and hold compliance in a high regard
  • Knowledge and experience using He Māpuna te Tamaiti and He Kōrerorero
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi through pedagogical practices
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong relationships with Tamariki, Whanau, teaching team and the wider community
  • Passion and commitment for teaching and learning with a focus on delivering quality education and care
