The Opportunity
OCU is delivering critical National Grid infrastructure projects across the UK. As an HV Fitter, you’ll be hands-on installing and maintaining high-voltage equipment within live substation environments, directly supporting works that keep the network running safely and reliably. Key Responsibilities
- Install and maintain HV plant including switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers and busbar systems
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and single line diagrams
- Assemble, align and fit mechanical HV equipment on site
- Support testing, commissioning and energisation activities
- Follow RAMS, permit systems and National Grid safety procedures at all times
- Identify, report and help resolve defects or non-conformances
- Maintain tools, plant and working areas to required standards
- Collaborate with supervisors, engineers and other trades to deliver safe installation
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Essential:
- Proven experience as an HV Fitter within substations or transmission environments
- Strong understanding of HV plant installation and maintenance
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of site safety practices within high-risk environments
- CSCS or CCNSG card
- Strong commitment to health and safety
Desirable:
- Experience working on National Grid projects
- Knowledge of National Grid Safety Rules
- IPAF, Slinger/Signaller or PASMA certification
- Experience within AIS or GIS substations
- Bonus if you have experience supporting commissioning or outage works
