We are seeking an Intermediate HSE Advisor to support our central Canada operations. The ideal candidate can be based in Ontario, preferably in the GTA region. This is a 12 to18 month maternity leave replacement.

The HSE Advisor will be a member of the Canadian HSEQ team and will play an important role in supporting project teams and leaders in maintaining safe and compliance work environments. The position combines some field-based support with administrative and technical safety responsibilities.

This role may not be a fit if you:

• Are seeking a primarily site-based or enforcement-focused position
• Strongly dislike administrative work, documentation, or reporting
• Are uncomfortable working within large, multi-stakeholder project environments.

Project and Operational Support

• Provide day to day HSE support to projects and offices
• Conduct and/or support incident investigations, including root cause analysis and development of corrective actions
• Assist with hazard identification, risk assessments, safe work planning, and implementation of control measures
• Support the review and development of project-specific HSE plans, procedures, and documentation.
• Promote proactive safety engagement through coaching, awareness initiatives, and positive reinforcement.

Administrative, Systems and Reporting

• Assist with inspections, audits, assessments, and verification activities.
• Maintain safety records, training databases, action-item logs, and compliance documentation.
• Support contractor and client prequalification submissions.
• Assist with the development and continuous improvement of HSE programs, procedures, and guidance materials.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and safety performance metrics for management and project teams.

Collaboration & Communication

• Build effective working relationships with project managers, supervisors, employees, contractors, and client representatives.
• Provide practical guidance that supports both operational objectives and health and safety requirements.
• Contribute to a positive safety culture through visible engagement, communication, and teamwork.
• Escalate significant safety concerns and emerging risks to project and HSE leadership as appropriate.

Qualifications

Experience & Professional Profile

• 3 to 7 years of health and safety experience in construction, infrastructure, engineering, consulting, transportation, utilities, or related industries.
• Experience supporting field operations and project-based environments.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse stakeholder groups.
• Strong report writing, documentation, and problem-solving abilities.

Required

• Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations.
• Experience conducting workplace inspections and supporting incident investigations.
• Valid driver's licence and ability to travel to project sites throughout Ontario.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Strongly Preferred

• CRSP (in progress), or other recognized health and safety designation.
• Experience working on large infrastructure, transportation, transit, civil construction, or utility projects.
• Experience supporting Joint Venture, alliance, P3, or multi-employer project environments.
• Familiarity with ISO 45001 or structured Health and Safety Management Systems.
• Knowledge of contractor management and owner/client safety requirements.
