About this role

Your mission

As part of our Systems Engineering team in Munich, Germany, you will contribute to the development of robotic mechanisms. The role is focused on the early concept phase: surveying the available solutions, deriving concepts, and performing trade-offs, while also offering the opportunity for theoretical design work and hands-on involvement with complex hardware. We also offer the opportunity to convert the work into a Master’s thesis, with the exact topic tailored to the candidate’s interests and strengths.

Your role will include:

  • Assist in conceptual analysis and design trade-offs on robotic mechanisms
  • Survey the state of the art in robotic mechanisms to establish what solutions are available
  • Contribute to mechanical modeling and structural analysis, using CATIA V5 / 3DEXPERIENCE
  • Contribute to the extension of internal Python-based tools used for mechanical design
  • Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and thermal analysis
  • Participate in the MAIT (Manufacturing, Assembly, Integration, and Testing) process
  • Prepare documentation for the deliverables inside mechanisms-based projects

Your profile

  • Enrolled in a Master’s or advanced Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • Knowledge of space mechanisms, load-bearing structures and an interest in complex mechanical assemblies
  • Familiarity with structural and thermal considerations, space mechanisms and space materials is expected
  • Knowledge of space grade electrical and data connectors is a plus
  • Good to have knowledge of relevant standards such as ECSS-E-ST-33-01C and ECSS-E-ST-32-10C
  • Experience with the testing of space hardware is recommended
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
