IVY Project Partner for the Interreg project "SAMESEA"

Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation is looking for an IVY volunteer!

The volunteer will support the Interreg project “SAMESEA - Sustainable Management of Marine Sentinel Species and Human Activities Interactions", under the Programme Interreg IPA Adrion.

The objective of the Interreg project "SAMESEA" is to harmonize monitoring and coordination practices among the EUSAIR countries, improving the dialgue between socio-economic activities and authorities responsible for marine biodiversity conservation. A common approach will be adopted to assess marine species (C. caretta, T. Truncatus, M. monachus) and human interaction at multiple levels providing monitoring and management plans.

The volunteer will be carrying out the following tasks and activities:

• assisting with the monitoring of marine mammals, with a focus on bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus);

• supporting boat-based surveys, collecting behavioural and acoustic data, assisting with passive acoustic data processing and analysis, contributing to photo-id and data management, and helping assess interactions between marine mammals and human activities;

• assisting with fieldwork preparation and project dissemination activities;

• proposing improvements to data collection protocols based on observations in the field, suggesting new approaches for analysing behavioural or acoustic datasets, and contributing ideas for outreach tailored to her own skills and interests;

• helping develop or test new data-recording tools, exploring innovative ways of visualising and communicating research findings, proposing activities that strengthen engagement with local communities and other relevant stakeholders;

• identifying relevant research questions, reviewing existing data, proposing an appropriate methodology and producing a short report, presentation or outreach resource.

Other information:

Financial support of: 34.60 euros per day (week-end and holidays included).

Location: Samos, Greece.

Start and duration: As soon as possible, for 6 months.

Languages*: English (B2), Italian (C2).

*Please be aware that the languages mentioned are the minimum level of command required.
