We are looking for a Full-time Jewelry Design Technologist (40h/week) to help us transition from selecting pre-existing supplier catalogue items to proactively creating original, differentiated piercing jewelry.

In this role, you'll combine production expertise, technical design knowledge, and commercial curiosity to uncover opportunities suppliers haven't seen yet. Working alongside our Digital Merchandiser and international manufacturing partners, you’ll turn trends, customer needs, and market gaps into manufacturable, compliant, and first-to-market products that give Bodymod a distinct competitive edge.

📋 Key responsibilities

Design Innovation & Range Building

• Identify emerging jewelry and piercing trends, novel materials, design possibilities, and technical innovations.

• Partner with the Digital Merchandiser to spot range gaps and promising market opportunities, where the Digital Merchandiser owns commercial assortment decisions and you lead technical/physical development.

• Move beyond supplier off-the-shelf options by developing original product concepts, sketches, and 3D CAD models to explore solutions and guide factory design teams.

• Challenge and collaborate with overseas suppliers to develop brand-new designs, constructions, and product solutions.

Technical Execution & Compliance

• Translate creative concepts into clear, unambiguous creative and technical briefs for manufacturers.

• Review CAD models, prototypes, and physical samples to ensure they hit the mark on design intent, functionality, quality, and comfort.

• Pioneer functional innovations in areas like locking mechanisms, threading, plating/coatings, material compatibility, and overall durability.

• Review laboratory reports, material declarations, certificates, and technical documentation to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

• Guide products through technical development, testing and refinement until they are ready for production.

• Help resolve recurring product-quality or usability issues through better design, materials or construction.

🎯 What you bring onboard

• Professional experience or relevant qualification in jewelry technology, production, design, product development, or a related field.

• Deep understanding of jewelry materials, construction methods, plating processes, finishes, and technical feasibility.

• Working knowledge of 3D jewelry design software (e.g., Rhino, MatrixGold, JewelCAD) and the ability to turn ideas into precise, production-ready specs.

• Hands-on experience reading and evaluating material specifications, lab testing reports, and technical compliance documentation.

• Strong communication skills and confidence collaborating directly with international manufacturers to refine and troubleshoot designs.

• Experience in fast-fashion ecommerce, body modification culture, or high-volume accessories.

• Prior experience with Asian supply chains and factory technical teams.

👉 The position

• Location: Malta-based or willing to relocate to Malta 🇲🇹

• Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week) with flexible working hours and significant CET team overlap.

• Salary Range: €32,000 – €50,000 / year (based on experience)
