Junior Automation and Control Specialist

We are looking for a motivated Junior Automation and Controls Specialist to support the maintenance and optimization of automation equipment at Rosebel Gold Mines. Under the supervision of the Automation and Controls Specialist, you will assist in troubleshooting and provide technical support to the Automation and Instrumentation technicians, ensuring efficient operations of our control systems.

Main Responsibilities:

Automation Equipment Maintenance:

• Assist with IP network configuration, layout, and fault analysis.

• Maintain fiber and copper networks, documentation, and system drawings.

• Configure DeviceNet hardware and software.

• Maintain PLC networks, hardware, and software.

• Support PLC panel building, wiring layout, and design.

• Backup and restore local HMI systems.

• Use diagnostic tools to monitor instrumentation performance and highlight issues.

• Navigate and support the Aveva System Platform.

• Maintain and troubleshoot the Fike fire server-based system.

• Ensure all automation documentation is current and accurate.

• Stay informed about evolving technologies in automation and controls.

Technical Support to A&I Technicians:

• Assist with daily process and instrumentation troubleshooting.

• Apply safety knowledge in a mining environment.

• Provide frontline control system support to maintenance, production, and engineering teams.

• Collaborate with control room operators, metallurgists, and technicians to improve operations.

• Analyze historical and real-time process data to identify improvements and resolve issues.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Control, Electrical, Electronic, or Software Engineering.

• Minimum 1 year of experience as an Automation Specialist in a mining environment.

• Knowledge of PLC hardware and fault finding, cyber security, and threat mitigation practices.

• Demonstrated use of PLC programming languages (Ladder, Function Block, Structured Language).

• Familiarity with ISA Alarm Management and various control and automation software.

• Proficiency with platforms such as EcoStruxure, Aveva System Platform (Wonderware Archestra), RSLogix5000, and others.

• Hands-on experience with hardware packages such as Rockwell PLC, Quantum Unity processors, ABB REF/RET/REM relays, and general mining instrumentation.

• Fluent in Dutch and English. Sranan Tongo is an advantage.

• Willingness to work in Brokopondo on a rotational schedule of 14 days of work followed by 7 days break.
