Position: Junior Project Manager (Steel Projects)

Job Overview:

Surespan Structures is seeking a Junior Project Manager to join our team in Duncan, BC. This is an opportunity for a young/new professional to take ownership of structural steel fabrication contributing directly to the successful delivery of high-profile infrastructure across Canada.

This role is best suited for a results-driven Project Manager who thrives in a collaborative environment, understands fabrication-driven projects, and is looking to play a meaningful role in both project execution and pre-construction planning. The position is a mentored one with experienced project managers overseeing training.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management & Delivery

• Lead projects from award through to completion, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget
• Collaborate with Senior Project Managers, Estimators, and Operations to streamline workflows and improve efficiency
• Oversee:
  • Procurement and coordination of materials
  • Change order pricing, tracking, and documentation
  • Submittals, RFIs, RFQs, and shop drawing processes
  • Document control and project correspondence
• Maintain clear, proactive communication with all stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution
• Support cost-effective project delivery through strong coordination and decision-making

Estimating Support

• Contribute to structural steel estimating efforts as needed, including quantity take-offs and scope reviews
• Review drawings and specifications to identify risks, opportunities, and cost impacts
• Support tender preparation and budgeting alongside the estimating team
• Help ensure seamless transition from estimating to project execution

Relationship Management

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and suppliers
• Contribute to a positive, team-oriented culture
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and project outcomes
• Support team success through collaboration, accountability, and shared goals

Project Coordination

• Manage and track all project documentation including contracts, subcontracts, RFIs, submittals, and site instructions
• Ensure all documentation is accurate, complete, and properly controlled
• Coordinate information flow between client, suppliers, and internal teams
• Ensure timely processing of submittals and contract changes

Performance Expectations:

• Demonstrate strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
• Communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams
• Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, production-driven environment
• Maintain a high level of organization, accountability, and attention to detail

Requirements:

• 1-3 years of Fabrication experience, including 0-2 years as a Project Manager in training/Qualified Project Manager
• Experience and/or knowledge in structural steel or heavy civil/bridge projects (some fabrication experience preferred)
• Some experience with of drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and project controls
• Exposure to structural steel estimating is considered a strong asset
• All applicants must be located in Canada and eligible/permitted to work in Canada.

Location of Employment:

Based at the Surespan Structures office in Duncan, British Columbia, supporting projects across Canada.

Compensation:

$60,000 – $65,000 per year, final salary will be based on experience.
