Laser Operative

The Role: We are looking for an experienced Laser Operative To set and operate Trumpf laser cutting machines to produce accurate, high quality components in accordance with customer drawings, specifications, and production requirements, while maintaining safety, efficiency, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Set and operate Trumpf laser cutting machines, making adjustments to achieve optimum cutting performance and quality.
• Verify material grade, thickness, finish, sheet size, job pack, and NC programmes before production.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and ensure components meet dimensional and quality requirements.
• Monitor cut quality throughout production and take corrective action where required.
• Inspect finished parts for accuracy, damage, surface condition, and suitability for subsequent processes.
• Handle stainless steel, polished, grained, anodised, and other finished materials carefully to prevent damage.
• Maximise material utilisation by effectively using suitable offcuts and requesting re-programming where necessary.
• Clearly label and store offcuts with the required material and job information.
• Carry out routine and preventative maintenance, including machine checks, cleaning, and maintaining water, oil, and other required levels.
• Identify and report machine faults, wear, or maintenance requirements to minimise downtime.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work area and comply with all health and safety requirements.
• Accurately record production times and job information using ERP and complete all required documentation.
• Communicate production issues and improvement opportunities to management.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase productivity, reduce waste, and prevent errors

Skills, Experience & Personal Attributes

• Previous experience setting and operating Trumpf or similar laser cutting machinery.
• Experience within bespoke, subcontract, or manufacturing environments.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Strong understanding of quality, dimensional accuracy, and material handling.
• Experience with machine maintenance and preventative maintenance practices.
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work independently.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Professional, positive, and flexible approach to work.
