About this role

We are seeking a Lead HVAC Technician / Lead Installer to join the field team in the Cambridge, MA area. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an experienced HVAC professional who can take charge of complex installations and service issues, mentor other technicians, and become the team's go-to technical resource while remaining active in the field.

What You'll Do as the Lead HVAC Technician / Lead Installer:

  • Lead residential and light-commercial HVAC installations from startup through completion.
  • Take ownership of jobs in the field, coordinating work and ensuring installations are completed correctly.
  • Diagnose and resolve difficult service, installation, and system-performance issues.
  • Work across heat pumps, mini-splits, ductless systems, rooftop units, high-velocity systems, boilers, and other HVAC equipment.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for a team of approximately four HVAC technicians.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced technicians when they encounter challenging technical problems.
  • Balance installation responsibilities with hands-on service diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • Communicate professionally with homeowners, commercial customers, technicians, and internal team members.
  • Help maintain high standards for workmanship, customer service, and job completion.
  • As the department grows, potentially take on additional estimating, project oversight, or HVAC leadership responsibilities.

Must-Haves as the Lead HVAC Technician / Lead Installer:

  • Significant hands-on HVAC experience, ideally 10+ years.
  • Previous experience as a Lead Technician, Lead Installer, Foreman, or senior field resource.
  • Proven ability to independently run HVAC jobs.
  • Strong HVAC installation background combined with advanced service diagnostics and troubleshooting skills.
  • Broad residential HVAC experience and comfort working on a variety of system types.
  • Ability and willingness to remain hands-on in the field.
  • Experience mentoring, training, or providing technical guidance to other HVAC professionals.
  • Ability to confidently work through unusual or complicated HVAC problems without relying on constant supervision.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Basic personal hand tools.
  • Ability to occasionally work more than 40 hours when project demands require it.

Nice-to-Haves as the Lead HVAC Technician / Lead Installer:

  • Light-commercial HVAC experience.
  • Experience with heat pumps and ductless/mini-split systems.
  • Experience with rooftop units.
  • Unico or other high-velocity system experience.
  • Boiler experience.
  • Previous responsibility for coordinating multiple technicians or installers.
  • Experience working directly with customers in occupied residential and commercial environments.
  • Interest in eventually growing into HVAC management, estimating, project oversight, or department leadership.
