Job Description Summary

The Lead Software Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for driving the design, delivery, and quality of high-impact product initiatives within their team and product area.

This role combines deep technicalexpertise, product thinking, and AI-enabled engineering practices to help teams deliver customer value quickly, reliably, and sustainably.

The Lead Software Engineer acts as a force multiplier within their team, setting standards for engineering excellence, mentoring peers, and helping shape the technical direction of their product area. They ensure engineering decisions and outcomes directly support customer success, business goals, and long-term product evolution.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Initiative

• Proactivelyidentifiesopportunities for product, engineering, and process improvement within their team and product area.
• Partners closely with Product, Design, and Team Leadership to translate customer and business needs into effective technical solutions.
• Leads technical design, implementation, and decision-making for complex initiatives within their product area.
• Provides technical leadership within the team, helping guide architectural decisions, engineering practices, and technical quality.
• Promotes simplicity in architecture, design, and implementation.

Communication

• Communicates technical concepts, trade-offs, andrisks clearlyto both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Builds strong working relationships with Product, Design, and Engineering colleagues.
• Shares knowledge through mentoring, pairing, code reviews, technical discussions, and coaching.
• Helps raise the technical capability of the team through guidance, feedback, andexample.

• Contributes to the evolution of ABC Fitness's AI-enabled engineering practices through experimentation, learning, and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications

• 7–10 years of professional software engineering experience, including experienceoperatingat a Senior Engineer level or equivalent.
• Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives.
• Deep knowledge of modern engineering practices, architecture design, and product development lifecycles.
•Strong communicationand influencing skills.
• Passion for mentorship, continuous learning, and improving team effectiveness.

Technical Experience

• Strong professional experience developing software in Java.
• Experience designing, building, andoperatingdistributed systems in cloud-native environments.
• Experience with modern testing, observability, CI/CD, and software delivery practices.

AI-Enabled Engineering

•Demonstratedexperience using AI-assisted engineering tools and workflows to improve productivity, quality, learning, and engineering effectiveness.
• Ability to effectively partner with AI tools throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Strong engineering judgment when applying AI-generated solutions.

Nice to Have

• Experience with PHP-based systems and applications.
• Experience with React and modern front-end technologies.
