About the role

This role sits within SEEK’s AI & Platform Services (AIPS) team, which builds AI-centric platforms and services that power experiences for millions of candidates and hirers globally. AIPS brings together engineering, AI and product expertise to turn complex data and technology into meaningful outcomes.

We’re looking for a Lead Engineer to lead the engineering function within our All the Ads team.

You’ll lead a team of engineers and work closely with data scientists, product managers and partner teams to build scalable services, data assets and AI-enabled capabilities across ad ranking, pricing, hirer behaviour and market-wide ad understanding.

This is a people leadership role for an experienced engineer who enjoys developing high-performing teams, shaping technical direction, solving complex problems and building strong partnerships across the business.

The team

The role sits within Pricing & Performance and leads the engineering function for All the Ads. The team works across variable pricing, ad ranking, hirer behaviour, market-wide ad understanding, aggregation and productionised data assets.

You’ll be part of a global, cross-functional team spanning Australia and Kuala Lumpur, working with Senior Engineers, Data Scientists, Product Managers and partner teams across SEEK. You’ll shape requirements, manage integrations and communicate clearly across disciplines.

This is a generalist engineering leadership role: you’ll design systems, spin up APIs, productionise ML models and support the technical health of the platform.

What you’ll do

• Lead, coach and grow a team of engineers through clear goals, regular feedback, career development and inclusive team practices.

• Build a high-performing engineering culture that supports ownership, collaboration, learning and delivery.

• Set technical direction and own the delivery of reliable, scalable backend systems and APIs.

• Partner with data scientists, product managers and business stakeholders to shape problems, priorities and outcomes.

• Design architectures that balance speed, quality, resilience, security and maintainability.

• Improve engineering, DevOps and ML operational practices.

• Influence across SEEK, managing integrations, dependencies and technical trade-offs with partner teams.

• Explore practical applications of new AI and engineering technologies.

Qualifications

• Strong experience designing, building and operating production software systems, APIs or platforms.
• Deep backend engineering capability, with experience in Python and/or Java.
• Strong SQL and relational database skills.
• Experience with AWS and modern cloud-based engineering practices.
• Demonstrated technical leadership of an engineering team, including setting direction, coaching engineers, providing feedback and supporting career development.
• Proven ownership of technical deliverables from shaping and planning through to delivery, with accountability for outcomes.
• Experience influencing technical decisions across product, data, AI, engineering and business teams.
• Experience working with data, AI or machine learning in some capacity. You don’t need to be an ML specialist we’re open to different technical backgrounds.
• The ability to communicate clearly, build trust and navigate trade-offs with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
