Lecturer, Plumbing

Key Responsibilities

• Teaching and Assessment – preparing and delivering high-quality learning, teaching and assessment materials and activities.
• Curriculum Development – contributing to the development, review and enhancement of curriculum programmes and learning resources.
• Quality and Standards – supporting the maintenance of high standards of learning, teaching and assessment in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.
• Student Support – providing effective academic and pastoral support to learners and contributing to an inclusive and positive learning environment.
• Continuing Professional Development – engaging in relevant professional development and contributing to the continuous improvement of teaching practice.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• SVQ Level 3 in Plumbing and Heating, or an equivalent recognised industry qualification.
• Current Domestic ACS certification.
• Substantial and recent plumbing and heating industry experience, normally demonstrated through at least 10 years' post-apprenticeship experience.
• Current practical competence in the installation, testing, commissioning, servicing, maintenance and fault diagnosis of plumbing, heating and domestic gas systems.
• Comprehensive knowledge of current legislation, building standards, health and safety requirements and industry practices.
• Ability to communicate technical and practical subjects clearly and engage, support and motivate a diverse range of learners.
• Strong interpersonal, organisational, digital and administrative skills.
• Willingness to achieve an appropriate teaching qualification and recognised assessor qualification within an agreed period

• Teaching Qualification in Further Education (TQFE), or another relevant teaching qualification.
• Recognised assessor and/or internal-verifier qualification.
• Recognised qualifications in heat-pump and/or solar-thermal installation and commissioning.
• Recent practical experience installing, commissioning, servicing or maintaining heat-pump and/or solar-thermal systems.
• Knowledge of low-temperature heating design, renewable technologies and relevant MCS requirements.
• Experience teaching, training, mentoring or assessing apprentices or vocational learners.
• Experience delivering or assessing Modern Apprenticeships, SVQs, National Qualifications or other building-services programmes.
• Experience of workplace assessment, digital portfolios, learning platforms and awarding-body quality-assurance processes.

• Relevant industrial or practitioner experience in appropriate discipline
• Teaching in a post compulsory education setting and of assessment and moderation in the context of SQA and the National Curriculum
• A relevant qualification required specifically for the curriculum area as identified by the College
