Berkley Life Sciences professionals cohesively respond to the unique challenges faced by our life science customers. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Actuarial Trainee to join our team in Ewing, NJ.

Responsibilities

This full-time, regular entry-level position provides hands-on actuarial experience and structured professional development, including actuarial exam support. The Actuarial Trainee will work alongside the Chief Actuary and collaborate with business partners on projects supporting pricing, reserving, risk analysis, forecasting, and strategic decision-making.

Under the direction of the Chief Actuary:

• Work closely with underwriting, claims, and finance professionals to understand business needs and provide data-driven insights that support the profitable growth of the company.
• Build and enhance tools and scripts to increase the efficiency and business impact of actuarial processes.
• Maintain, improve, and develop actuarial models for pricing, reserving, and forecasting.
• Update and refine profitability reviews for the company’s book of business.
• Collect, validate, clean, and analyze policy and claim data.
• Prepare exhibits, reports, and presentations for stakeholders inside and outside of Berkley Life Sciences.
• Perform competitor rate comparisons and market research.
• Document work clearly and communicate findings to actuarial and business partners.
• Support additional actuarial analyses and projects as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution with significant coursework in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, data science, or a related quantitative field, completed or expected before the start date.
• Coursework or project experience using a programming language such as Python, R, or SQL.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel.
• Successful completion of at least one actuarial exam.

• Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and with purpose.

• Excellent organization, integrity, accountability, and follow-through.

• Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and remain calm under pressure.

• Natural curiosity and a desire to learn how the business works and identify innovative improvements.

• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across functions and at all levels of the organization.

• Interest in building a long-term career in actuarial science and the property and casualty insurance industry.
