OBJECTIVE: The Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery and equipment used in site operations. The role also supports routine operations, preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, troubleshooting, and general maintenance activities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant and equipment performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Equipment Operations
- Primarily operate cranes for lifting, moving, positioning, loading, and unloading materials, equipment, and structures in accordance with approved lifting plans, site procedures, and safety requirements.
- Conduct pre-start, operational, and post-operation inspections of cranes and associated lifting equipment.
- Coordinate with riggers, signalers, and supervisors to ensure safe and efficient lifting operations.
- As permitted by the employee's competency, training, certification, and authorization, operate other heavy machinery and mobile equipment including forklifts, telehandlers, loaders, excavators, backhoes, boom lifts, manlifts, trucks, generators, compressors, and other site/plant equipment as required to support operational and maintenance activities.
- Ensure all equipment is operated within manufacturer specifications, statutory requirements, and company procedures.
- Monitor equipment performance and promptly report defects, malfunctions, or unsafe conditions.
- Maintain accurate operating logs, inspection records, and equipment checklists.
- Support material handling, construction, maintenance, logistics, and operational activities as required.
- Ensure that areas around equipment are tidy after maintenance work.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Follow all company safety procedures, permit-to-work requirements, and operational standards.
- Conduct pre-task risk assessments and participate in toolbox meetings.
- Use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, and equipment defects.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.
- Comply with all process safety management and risk management best practices (EIS, PSM, MOC, etc.). Work to achieve our goal of "Zero Accidents".
QUALIFICATIONS:
- HND or NVTI Part 1, Part 2 or Part
- Valid Heavy Equipment License – Class DE
- Valid Mincom Certificate of Competence for cranes not less than 400T
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 2+ years of experience operating cranes not less than 400T
