Position Title: Manager, Department of Strategic Support

Department/Unit: Project Executive Council

Duty Station: Khartoum, Republic of Sudan

Contract type: Voluntary Service (VS) Part-time

Duration: 2 Years with a possibility of extension

 

The role

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Executive Project Manager, the Manager of Strategic Support will be responsible for shaping and providing strategic direction to the DSS’s efforts to increase overall support for the PMO through the following specialized functions: Change Management, External Relation, Monitoring & Evaluation, and Technical Support.   

The Manager is responsible for providing leadership and quality assurance for the delivery of strategic support services within Sudan Vision 2030 PMO. S/he also oversees the Sudan Initiatives team.

 

Responsibilities

As delegated by the Executive Project Manager, the Manager of Strategic Support will work to perform the following tasks and duties:

  • Oversee and provide guidance to relevant heads of DSS unit (External Relations, Technical Support, Change Management, Monitoring & Evaluation) in the development, implementation, test-piloting and upgrades of support services and systems for the purpose of furthering internal communications.
  • Leads DSS Directorate business solutions, corporate management, and internal communications teams, and technical resource people working in the Directorate.
  • Provides advice to the Project Governance Board on partnership building and communications-related issues and facilitate coordination of advocacy and outreach efforts.
  • In liaison with the DSS team, develops a targeted communications plan in support of the strategic positioning objectives of SV-PMO.
  • Identifies new partners and develops region-specific partnership strategies in cooperation with DSS and other relevant units and informs SV-PMO Board about new partnership opportunities.
  • Establishes and maintains high-level contacts with senior officials and departments in the respective partners, and other multilateral, bilateral entities.

 

    Qualifications

    Skills and Experience

    • Experience in project or progarmme communications.
    • Experience in managing teams and promoting their capacity development.
    • Prior experience with international development and/or non-profit organizations, and/or working in a start-up business environment is required.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication, networking, and presentation skills (in English).
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage complex tasks and prioritize competing demands in order to meet deadlines.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

    Education

    First-level degree or equivalent in professional areas directly related to the project, such as environmental studies, development, programme management, or meteorology.
