Marketing Coordinator
AI Summary
Executes day-to-day digital marketing across social media, email, and marketplaces; schedules posts, manages campaigns, coordinates creative assets, and monitors performance to ensure reliable marketing operations.
About this role
Company Overview
Home Surplus is a multi-location retail warehouse superstore for cabinets, doors, countertops, and related home improvement products, offering in-stock products, expert design, and outstanding customer service at value prices. After operating as a single location for over 60 years, Home Surplus has expanded to five stores across New Jersey and Maryland in recent years as it grows toward a national footprint.
Position Summary
The Digital Marketing Coordinator is responsible for executing Home Surplus's day-to-day digital marketing activities across multiple channels. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role for someone who is highly organized, responsive, and comfortable managing a large number of recurring marketing tasks. The role is less about developing high-level strategy or personally creating every piece of content, and more about making sure campaigns, posts, emails, listings, and other marketing initiatives are completed accurately and on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule, publish, and maintain content across social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and other relevant platforms.
- Post and maintain products, promotions, and offers on Facebook Marketplace and similar digital marketplaces.
- Identify and execute appropriate opportunities on community platforms such as Nextdoor, local Facebook Groups, Reddit, and other relevant online communities.
- Build, schedule, and send customer email campaigns, promotional emails, newsletters, and automated drip campaigns.
- Maintain campaign calendars and ensure planned marketing initiatives launch on schedule.
- Coordinate with the internal creative team to request graphics, video, copy, photography, and other assets needed for campaigns.
- Coordinate with outside agencies, freelancers, technology providers, and other vendors when additional creative or technical support is required.
- Repurpose approved creative across multiple channels and formats while keeping messaging consistent.
- Monitor basic campaign performance, engagement, email results, and lead activity; flag what is working and what needs attention.
- Maintain organized files, marketing assets, campaign links, logins, calendars, and project status information.
- Perform routine website and digital-content updates using available tools and internal or external technical support.
- Follow through on marketing tasks from assignment through completion and proactively surface delays, missing assets, or roadblocks.
What This Role Is — and Is Not
- This is an execution-heavy “blocking and tackling” marketing role.
- The person should be capable of independently managing the daily workflow without needing to set the overall company marketing strategy.
- They do not need to be the primary graphic designer, videographer, or creative director; they will work with internal and outside creative resources.
- Using AI tools to work more efficiently is expected, not optional — this role is not a fit for someone who prefers to do everything manually.
- They should have enough marketing judgment to know when something is ready to publish, when to ask a question, and when to escalate an issue.
Candidate Profile
- Required: comfortable using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Canva AI, scheduling and automation platforms) as a core, everyday part of the workflow — this is a must-have, not a nice-to-have.
- 1–4 years of experience in digital marketing, social media, email marketing, e-commerce, or a related coordination role.
- Extremely organized with strong follow-through and attention to detail.
- Comfortable juggling multiple channels, deadlines, and recurring tasks at the same time.
- Working knowledge of social media platforms, email marketing systems, digital marketplaces, and common marketing tools.
- A strong written communicator who can make light edits to copy and adapt approved messaging for different channels.
- Self-directed and proactive, with a bias toward getting things completed rather than waiting for perfect conditions.
- Comfortable coordinating with creative people, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Analytical enough to review basic metrics and recognize obvious trends without needing to be a dedicated data analyst.
Accountability
This person owns the following outcomes directly — these are the measures used to evaluate performance in the role:
- On-time delivery: scheduled posts, emails, and campaigns launch on the dates committed on the campaign calendar, without last-minute scrambles.
- Accuracy: published content, pricing, offers, and listings are correct and consistent across every channel before they go live.
- Follow-through: creative and asset requests to internal or outside resources are tracked to completion, not just submitted.
- Proactive escalation: delays, missing assets, or roadblocks are flagged to marketing leadership early enough to be solved, not discovered after a deadline is missed.
- Organization: campaign files, assets, links, and login/access records are kept current and easy for others to find.
- Basic reporting: engagement, email, and lead performance are monitored and summarized on a regular cadence, with clear flags on what needs attention.
Success in the Role
Success means Home Surplus has a consistent, reliable marketing execution engine: planned posts actually go live, emails are sent on time, marketplace and community channels stay active, creative requests do not fall through the cracks, and marketing leadership can spend more time on strategy instead of chasing day-to-day execution.
