[MAT] Applied Computational Surface Chemist

The Role
We’re hiring an Applied Computational Surface Chemist to build rigorous evaluations and benchmarks for Prometheus’s materials models across ALD/ALE, catalysis, and other surface chemistry problems. You’ll work closely with ML researchers, computational scientists, and experimental teams to ensure our models can solve complex, real-world surface chemistry problems.

What You’ll Do

• Build state-of-the-art evaluations and benchmarks for ALD, ALE, catalysis, and related surface chemistry problems

• Translate real-world industrial and research problems into rigorous model evaluation tasks

• Apply computational surface chemistry methods to validate model predictions

• Identify challenging edge cases that require deep domain expertise

• Work with experimental teams to benchmark predictions against physical results and continuously improve evals

• Partner with ML researchers to identify model failure modes and prioritize areas for improvement

What We’re Looking For

• Deep expertise in computational surface chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, or related fields

• Strong experience applying computational methods to real-world surface chemistry problems

• Experience with ALD/ALE, semiconductor process chemistry, or industrial catalysis is a plus

• Strong understanding of adsorption, reaction mechanisms, surface energetics, and kinetics

• Experience working closely with experimentalists and validating computational predictions

• Ability to independently reason through difficult or unusual surface chemistry problems
