Materials Technician II

Overview

Element Materials Technology in Baltimore has an opportunity for a Materials Technician II to join our team. As a member of the operations team in Baltimore, the Materials Technician position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under direct supervision. The technician position must be proficient in a number of core business skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.

Element Baltimore supports customers across the aerospace, automotive, commercial products, defense, energy, medical, space, and telecommunications industries. Core capabilities include chemical, electrical, thermal, environmental, and space simulation testing, alongside specialty services such as thermal vacuum testing, outgassing analysis, tin whisker studies, and custom material property evaluation.

Salary: $31.25 - $36.00 / hr

Responsibilities

• Review and understand customer specifications and / or statements of work to prepare samples and set-up testing
• Conduct testing of material properties such as tensile strength, hardness, flexural strength, coefficient of thermal expansion, glass transition temperature, and thermal conductivity
• Perform preparation and testing with limited supervision
• Operate under the guidance of a senior test technician and/or a Department Manager
• Report writing, data interpretation and analysis
• Performing other duties to fulfil the demands of the laboratory
• Performing general duties in accordance with Element's internal procedures, quality as well as Health and Safety system

Skills / Qualifications

• Working knowledge of laboratory safety
• HS diploma or GED certificate required, college or vocational school coursework preferred
• Laboratory experience preferred
• Possess strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, laboratory software programs)
• Familiarity with material properties such as tensile strength, hardness, flexural strength, coefficient of thermal expansion, glass transition temperature, and thermal conductivity
• Basic understanding of cutting / sample preparation tools
• Technical writing skills preferred
• Ability to inspect / analyze and compile testing data from the tests performed into a test report
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong attention to detail
