Since our establishment in 1972, we have been exporting leading FMCG, building materials, and general merchandise brands to over 55 countries worldwide. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Meat Buyer to join our Procurement team at our Durban office. The ideal candidate will have expertise in procuring meat products—including pork, beef, chicken, lamb, and fish—specifically for the export market. This role requires a deep understanding of international procurement and export regulations to ensure compliance and efficiency in the exportation process.

Role Purpose

The Meat Buyer will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and overseeing the procurement of meat products both locally and internationally for export. The role involves liaising with suppliers, ensuring compliance with South African and international export regulations, and managing inspection and loading processes. Additionally, the Meat Buyer will serve as the primary point of contact between the company, various export authorities, and meat suppliers.pn

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

Develop and manage the procurement of both fresh and frozen meat for export.

Provide support to the Senior Meat Buyer.

Build and maintain strategic relationships with new and existing suppliers.

Negotiate market support and pricing with suppliers.

Manage and negotiate costs throughout the value chain, from livestock to specific cuts required by clients.

Monitor the execution of orders with suppliers and Export Coordinators to ensure adherence to protocols.

Conduct physical inspections and oversee the loading process.

Liaise with suppliers, negotiate terms, and provide market feedback.

Collaborate with PPECB inspectors and veterinary departments to obtain the necessary documentation for shipments.

Source and establish new supplier relationships while maintaining strong connections with existing clients.

Resolve claims and disputes with suppliers as they arise.

Maintain accurate records of all meat orders for export.

Ensure strict adherence to all procurement and export processes.

Minimum Requirements

Experience:

Extensive knowledge of meat products, including grading and cuts of pork, beef, chicken, lamb, and fish.

Strong understanding and experience in the meat export process.

A minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role, with a focus on procurement.

Established relationships with meat suppliers.

Knowledge of import regulations for meat in South Africa is advantageous.

Technical Skills:

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
