About this role
Mechanical Engineer - Thermal Processing Equipment
NanoCore Technologies is an early stage technology company developing a method of metal additive manufacturing an order of magnitude less complicated and less expensive than existing printers. Today, popular metal 3D printers cost half a million dollars or more and use complicated high-powered lasers and controlled atmospheres. NanoCore is taking an entirely different approach that utilizes proprietary materials science and machine design to make metal 3D printing easier, simpler and less expensive than previously imaginable. To put it simply, we believe our technology will fundamentally change how metal parts are made.
We are a dedicated team of engineers and scientists passionate about manufacturing innovation. We see technical challenges as opportunities, and through focus and teamwork we find creative solutions. Apply only if you are excited about getting your hands dirty. NanoCore is located in San Francisco, CA and is walking distance to Bart & Caltrain and offers competitive salaries, benefits and stock options.
You will utilize experience in metals processing and equipment design to help NanoCore bring our first metal 3D printer to market. You will optimize existing furnaces along with designing the next generation of NanoCore’s heat treatment systems. The role requires extensive laboratory and shop work, both routine and creative in nature. The candidate will lead furnace system development and testing efforts including:
• Engineering of subcomponents, including heating control, atmosphere control, and thermal management.
• Design for manufacturing of production furnace system; interfacing with outside suppliers to source components.
• Systematic testing of sintering reliability with Design of Experiments.
• Data analysis and summary with regular presentations of results to an engineering team
Qualifications
• Demonstrated expertise in mechanical engineering and electrical engineering experience, with a minimum of 4 years of work performing thermal system engineering
• Thorough knowledge of mechanical and thermal systems, experience in furnace design preferred
• Knowledge of electrical engineering in areas such as high power electronics, PLCs, safety systems
• Experience in the execution of small, medium, and/or large-scale experiments: design, fabrication, and inspection oversight including results analysis and presentation
• Demonstrated project management skills; experience overseeing and completing projects on schedule and within allocated budget
• Demonstrated ability to solve a wide range of technical problems with creativity, where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of a variety of factors
• Masters or Doctorate in materials science or mechanical engineering
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, as demonstrated through interactions with peers across their organization, business unit, and/or the laboratory
