Mechanical Engineering Internship
AI Summary
Mechanical engineering intern responsible for designing and prototyping hardware for autonomous heavy machinery, working with Zurich teams to integrate mechanical, electrical, and test fixtures from prototype to production.
About this role
Gravis Robotics builds technology that turns heavy construction machines into intelligent and autonomous robots. Our unique combination of learning-based automation and augmented remote control lets one operator safely conduct a fleet of earthmoving machines with super-human productivity. Building upon over a decade of academic experience honing the cutting edge of large-scale robotics, we continue to innovate as we rapidly position ourselves in a trillion dollar industry through active deployments with market leaders.
About the Job
We are looking for a mechanical engineering intern work on the mechanical design of the Gravis hardware package that turns regular excavators into awesome, autonomous machines. You will work with engineering teams in Zurich to design, engineer, prototype, test, refine, manufacture, and implement custom hardware that enables our AI to control and assist with the safe operation of heavy machines. You are capable of working both independently and with others, and are intrinsically driven to solve challenging applied problems with a rigorous attention to detail and an explorative imagination.
Responsibilities
Develop mechanical designs supporting our next-generation vehicle integration package, implementing innovative and practical solutions in a rapid development environment
Develop custom tools for increasing productivity of our production and application teams
Plan and run testing campaigns in multidisciplinary engineering challenges
Develop test fixtures & manufacturing bring-up plans as your designs move from prototype & low-volume production into mass production
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate electrical components into larger systems
Requirements
Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field in a Swiss university
Proficient in 3D CAD for mechanical engineering (preferably Solidworks/Fusion 360)
Ability to verify and troubleshoot mechanical systems
Good command of English, both written and spoken
Beneficial Experience
Experience with mechatronic hardware systems
Experience in ECAD (KiCad, Altium, etc.)
Knowledge in product development and manufacturing technologies
Experience with robotics and robotics middleware (e.g. ROS/ROS2)
