Position Summary

ASM is seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator with a strong background in commercial HVAC and mechanical contracting. This is a key role for an experienced estimator who can independently manage the estimating process and deliver accurate, competitive, and profitable bids with minimal training.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, mechanical construction, estimating, takeoffs, project costs, and margins, along with established relationships with vendors and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate estimates, quotes, and bid proposals for commercial HVAC and mechanical projects.
• Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents and perform detailed equipment and piping takeoffs.
• Conduct site visits, project walk-downs, and bid walks to evaluate scope and field conditions.
• Obtain and analyze pricing from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• Develop accurate labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs and establish appropriate project margins.
• Maintain and leverage strong relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and clients.
• Manage multiple bids and ensure proposals are accurate, competitive, and submitted on time.
• Follow up on bids and work with management and clients throughout the bidding process.
• Identify scope gaps, cost risks, and opportunities for value engineering or cost savings.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of mechanical/HVAC estimating experience preferred.
• Must have experience with a commercial mechanical or HVAC contractor.
• Strong understanding of commercial HVAC and mechanical systems, including RTUs, chillers, boilers, piping, pumps, controls, and related equipment.
• Proven experience performing accurate mechanical drawing takeoffs for equipment and piping.
• Strong understanding of labor, material, subcontractor pricing, project costs, and margins.
• Established relationships with mechanical vendors and subcontractors preferred.
• Ability to independently manage estimates from initial bid review through submission and follow-up.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and mechanical estimating/takeoff software.
• Field HVAC/mechanical experience is a strong plus.
