About this role

Mechatronic Engineer

📍 Cape Town 🕒 Full-Time | On-Site

ABOUT THE COMPANY
IBCO is a pan tracking system built for industrial bakery customers. It combines scanners and sensors on production lines, networking and remote connectivity, a cloud database and a web platform, real hardware and software working together to solve a real problem on real production floors.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for two Mechatronic Engineers to take day-to-day technical ownership of IBCO's sites, getting every installation running and keeping daily operations locked in and accurate. Our software development is outsourced to Systemative, but we need people on the inside who understand the full system architecture, keep it live and reliable, and are technically capable of working alongside outsourced development rather than just escalating issues. This is a role for someone just as comfortable installing and commissioning hardware on a factory floor as they are troubleshooting a backend issue or coordinating with a developer on an upgrade.

IS IT FOR ME?

  • A qualification or experience in mechatronics, electronics, industrial automation or a related technical field, you don't need to tick every box
  • Younger, early-career engineers who are hands-on, curious and keen to build real-world experience across hardware, connectivity and software
  • Strong technical aptitude and structured fault-finding ability
  • Practical experience, or strong aptitude, with industrial hardware such as scanners, cameras, sensors, controllers or similar data-capture equipment
  • Comfortable working with suppliers to source and order parts
  • Some exposure to coding or a willingness to learn, this becomes more important as the role grows
  • Good communication skills and a self-driven approach

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Short term:

  • Install and commission hardware on site
  • Keep the system backend up to date and live
  • Carry out remote fixes when issues come up
  • Work with the developer to manage upgrades
  • Work with suppliers to order parts and components

Long term:

  • Contribute to the advancement of IBCO systems, including new tech and new AI tools, and push the coding forward to upgrade the site
  • Grow into the technical side of the business, including visiting clients, product design and costings

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

  • Real ownership of a live, mission-critical system used by industrial customers
  • Exposure across the full stack, hardware, networking, databases and software
  • Direct collaboration with our outsourced development team and technical suppliers
  • Room to grow into broader ownership as you build your track record
  • Hands-on problem-solving, not just theory, from day one

OUR CULTURE
We're practical, hands-on and genuinely curious about how things work. We're not looking for someone with every answer on day one, we're looking for someone who digs in, asks good questions and gets better at solving problems over time.
