About this role
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) is a Key Personnel role fully dedicated to a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) contract. The APM assists the Project Manager in structuring, planning, and monitoring projects, ensuring alignment with the Contractor’s technical approach and management methodology. The APM will assume full responsibility of the Project Manager role in their absence.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support the Project Manager in project planning, structuring, scheduling, and performance monitoring.
- Assist in managing project workflows in alignment with CMS requirements.
- Ensure project execution adheres to the Contractor’s strategy, management plan, and quality processes.
- Serve as acting Project Manager when required.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to maintain project continuity, compliance, and timeliness.
Required Experience
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in the healthcare industry supporting Federal Government agencies or the Commercial Healthcare Market in roles such as:
- Project Manager
- Project Leader
- Operations Manager
- Technical Project Manager
- Product Manager
- Minimum 2 years managing complex medical review systems and workflow, including personnel oversight.
- Minimum 2 years of Medicare Fee‑for‑Service (FFS) experience, particularly Medicare coverage and payment rules.
- Must be actively working toward a Project Management certification if not already obtained.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a healthcare‑relevant field, AND
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Business, Public Administration, or another healthcare‑related field
OR - Four (4) additional years of related work experience in lieu of a master’s degree.

The base pay range for this position in these locations is shown below.
